Aundre Hyatt finishes Rutgers visit, plans more before decision

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Aundre Hyatt, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound small forward from the Miller (VA) School and Boo Williams, finished up his first official visit to Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

“The visit went really well,” he said. “I liked what they were offering.”

“It was a great visit and the coaches and players showed us a great time,” said Mike Mathews, Hyatt’s mentor.

“They want him to play right away or red shirt, whatever he wants to do. They said he can be the guy who changes the direction of the program. It’s a huge media market and they play in a big-time conference.”

Said Hyatt before the visit: “Rutgers just wants me to jump in and enjoy the program.. They said they’ll take me in either ’18 or ’19. It doesn’t matter. They just want a shooter.”

Hyatt, who was originally in the Class of 2018 before reclassifying to 2019, could enroll in college for 2018-19 and redshirt this season.

“I’ve been thinking about red-shirting to develop my body and get a better feel for college basketball,” he added.

He plans visits to Creighton next and then LSU, among others, in July before making a decision.

“He will make a decision on a commitment after Creighton, LSU and a few other visits,” Mathews said.
