Duke’s Barrett, Florida’s Nembhard training with Canadian Senior National Team

Incoming Duke freshman R.J. Barrett and incoming Florida freshman Andrew Nembhard will be be part of the Canadian Senior National Team as it trains for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.

Barrett and Nembhard played together on the UPlay Canada AAU team and at Montverde (FL) Academy, where they led a team that went 35-0 and won the Geico High School National Championship under coach Kevin Boyle.

Nembhard also played last week with the Canadian U18 team lost to the USA in the gold medal game of the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario. Barrett was training in Los Angeles.

The team also includes current and former NBA players Anthony Bennett, Khem Birch, Chris Boucher, Dillon Brooks and Kelly Olynyk.

Head Coach Jay Triano (Charlotte Hornets) will be joined by assistants Roy Rana (Ryerson University), Nathaniel Mitchell (Raptors 905), Dave Smart (Carleton University) and Scott Morrison (Boston Celtics).

The team will travel to British Columbia this week to face China in the Pacific Rim Basketball Classic.  Rogers Arena in downtown Vancouver will host Team Canada on Friday, June 22 at 7:30 PM PT before the team travels to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria for a game on Sunday, June 24 at 5:00 PM PT.

Canada resumes the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers with a first-place showdown against Dominican Republic on Friday, June 29 in Toronto, before concluding the first-round with a Canada Day long weekend matchup versus U.S. Virgin Islands at The Arena at TD Place on Monday, July 2 in Ottawa.
