Ryan Boyce, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from East (TN) High School, announced his commitment to Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers on Thursday via Twitter.
“Thank you to my coaches and trainers who continued to help me get better. To coach [Robert] Ehsan and coach [Dannton] Jackson at UAB, thank you for recruiting me, and realizing the dream of a kid who wants to play basketball in his hometown,” said Boyce in a statement released via Twitter. “With that being said, I am extremely blessed and proud to further my education and basketball career at the University of Memphis.”
Boyce signed his letter of intent to UAB in December.
Last season, Boyce played under Hardaway at East High School, before Hardaway accepted the head coaching job at Memphis in March. Next year, Boyce will be joined by high school teammate Alex Lomax, who committed to Memphis in April.
In addition to Boyce and Lomax, Memphis currently has 2018 commitments from Antwann Jones, Tyler Harris, David Wingett, Isaiah Maurice, and Jayden Hardaway.
According to 247Sports, Boyce is ranked as the No. 226 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 6 player from the state of Tennessee.
