Trey McGowens to Pittsburgh, Reclassifies to 2018

By SEAN BOCK

Trey McGowens, the 6-foot-3 combo guard from Hargrave Military Academy (VA), has committed to Pittsburgh and will reclassify to the 2018 class, he told 247Sports.

McGowens chose Pitt over interest from Clemson, Minnesota, Ole Miss and St. John’s. McGowens has yet to visit the campus, but we will take an official visit there next week.

“I feel like coach [Jeff] Capel has a good vision for me and he will let me make mistakes without looking over my shoulder,” McGowens said. “He played the point guard and the two guard at a high level and I think he can help me where I want to go. He has a lot of knowledge.”

McGowens is the first commit in the Capel era and thought the Panthers were the right fit during an in-home visit the past couple days.

“He actually came in early last week and he just talked to me and told me what he thought of me,” McGowens said. “The plans he told me, I felt comfortable with.”

According to 247Sports, McGowens is the No. 88 player in the class of 2019 and No. 9 shooting guard in the nation.
