Famous Wants Out at USF; Kentucky Loses 3; Clemson's Olgesby to Europe

Jarrid Famous wants out of his Letter of Intent to South Florida, multiple sources said Tuesday.

“Jarrid Famous is trying to get out of his letter,” one source with direct knowledge said.

The 6-foot-11 Famous chose South Florida last month over Arizona, Missouri and Seton Hall and could end up at one of those places if he gets out. Arizona appears to be a likely destination.

Famous’ father, however, told the St. Petersburg Times that his son would attend South Florida.

“Jarrid is going to South Florida. He’s not switching schools,” the father said. “He’s going to South Florida, no doubt about it.”

Famous is reportedly upset because he hasn’t heard from USF head coach Stan Heath. He also wasn’t notified of the coaching changes at USF which saw the departure of Byron Samuels, who helped recruit Famous, and of Dan Hipsher, now at Alabama.

Famous was not immediately available for comment.

Westchester assistant Mickey Carey told the Tampa Tribune Famous is in the process of contacting USF athletic director Doug Woolard to get his release.

“There seems to be a rift among the [Westchester] coaches wanting him to go to Arizona,” Heath told the paper. “The dad assured me the kid is coming. I spoke briefly with Jarrid today, and I am supposed to talk to him again later today.”

“Jarrid’s mind is made up,” Carey told the Tampa Tribune. “Last week, he got really fed up. It got to the point … Heath says I’m going to come see him on this day and then he says he can’t make it. After a while that gets old. I think the situation at USF doesn’t look good.

“I was concerned when you have half your staff leave in a week. Now a month and a half later and there’s still uncertainty who will be on staff. Plus Heath only has two years left [on his contract].

“Since Jarrid signed, he hasn’t seen Coach Heath, Coach Heath hasn’t called him. He doesn’t know anything about the coaching staff. He didn’t feel comfortable with the situation anymore. It seems to be very unstable.”

If Famous doesn’t get a release – a la Jio Fontan at Fordham -he would have to sit a year and then resurface somewhere for the 2010-11 season.

KENTUCKY LOSING THREE

Remember all the talk about John Calipari having 17 scholarship players at Kentucky?

It seems like ancient history now.

The Wildcats announced Tuesday that Jared Carter, A.J. Stewart and Donald Williams will not return for the 2009-10 season.

Carter, a 7-2 senior, will not seek a fifth year, after sitting out the majority of the 2006-07 season due to a shoulder injury.

“I’ve enjoyed my experience at UK and will remember all the people and players I’ve met along the way, especially Mr. Keightley,” said Carter. “I’m looking forward to moving on with my life and am excited to see what professional opportunities await me.”

Stewart (pictured) and Williams will both transfer.

Kentucky guard Jodie Meeks could still withdraw from the NBA Draft, leaving the ‘Cats with 13 players.

Some members of their star-studded incoming class could also fail to become eligible.

Speaking of Kentucky, former coach Billy Gillispie’s house is up for sale if anyone has a couple mill to blow in Lexington.

OGLESBY GOING TO EUROPE

One day after Nick Calathes of Florida announced he would play professionally in Greece, Clemson sophomore guard Terrence Oglesby said he will follow him to Europe.

Oglesby averaged 13.2 points and drained 92 3-pointers last season and was one of the Tiger’s top players.

“It’s a very good opportunity for me to go over there and be a professional and practice twice a day and work out six hours a day,” Oglesby told Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com. “It was too much to pass up.”

  • Nice quick story AZ.

    Good stuff.

We also found out some more details…

    Heath…..

“Remember when Famous completed his visit at the UofA.

Famous arrived in NYC on Sunday.

And had a meeting with Heath on Sunday.

So, WHY didn’t Heath reveal that the assistant coach was FIRED.
Or at least provide an indication that coaching changes were coming.

The FACT is Heath did NOT provide any information on the assist coach being FIRED or no longer on the STAFF.”

    SHADDY…

  • AZ,

We provided the RED FLAGs on USC.
And you see what is happening.
Soon, MoMo will get his release from the LOI.

    But, with USF…more RED FLAGS…

And where there are RED FLAGS….FIRE follows SOON.

    TWO RED FLAGS:
Why didn’t Heath….disclose the firing and departure of the assistant coaches.

TWO have left. Assistant coaches are GONE.

There are major RED FLAGS in USF.
Remember, I told you about the REF FLAGS in USC.
Something is REALLY WRONG at USF.

“The week before Famous committed, USF assistant Byron Samuels, who was involved in the recruiting of Famous, was fired by Heath.
A few days later, USF assistant Dan Hipsher left for Alabama. Famous was not notified about either coaching change by Heath, Carey said.”

    THIRD RED FLAG:

Is it me , or is Shaddy business going on at USF!

Famous wanted to talk before May20 in order to get the release….and the coach just delayed and delayed.

Why did the USF coach wait until after May20…..and Famous is still waiting.
    Very shaddy business in USF.

“Last week, he got really fed up. It got to the point … Heath says I’m going to come see him on this day and then he says he can’t make it. After a while that gets old. I think the situation at USF doesn’t look good.

“Since Jarrid signed, he hasn’t seen Coach Heath, Coach Heath hasn’t called him. He doesn’t know anything about the coaching staff. He didn’t feel comfortable with the situation anymore.

It seems to be very unstable.”

  • AZ,

You know that Noel J. from USC was granted his LOI release.

So, when will MoMo get his release.

In your article, you had MoMo arranging a visit to Arizoan ,before Timie brokered the MoMo signing.
So, Arizona is coming back to the picture.

Thus, Famous and MoMo are in the Arizona Mix.

This give LANCE limited TIME to make a decision.
LANCE wants to go to ARIZONA then a VERBAL seems to be the correct step.
    Time is running out.

  • I understand he’s upset but wanting out of his LOI ?

  • Hopefully Jarrid follows his coach’s advice and heads out west to Arizona. He’s the key that could take them from being a fringe tournament team to a conference title contender. Having him fill the lane on offense and plug up the middle on defense would be huge for the Wildcats. Miller’s teams at Xavier always played with effort, hustle, and mental toughness. Jarrid would be wise to play for Arizona and improve his game out west.

  • Guys, I am an idiot. Just ignore my posts.

  • the kid has a great name ….but really can’t play a lick …good luck Arizona

  • Oh believe us, we all know you are an idiot.

  • Hey jayhawkfan11, I just want to admit that I am an AZ fan undercover as a USC fan and am just here to promote my own blog.

  • every available kid wants to go to Ariz. …why not ? ..Lute Olsen hall of fame coach is gone …. a cloud hangs over the program …they’ve just hired an Atlantic 10 guy who play’s boring basketball ….. yeah Lance will love it there …. LOL …. maybe he’ll get a shot off after his teammates pass the ball around for 25 seconds

  • AZ,

Looks like you have a hacker. LMAO.

    Funny.
    USC has a blog…no……LMAO

  • Ben,

There are more comments about Heath …..

“…if it’s true that Heath either kept this news from Famous or lied to him that Samuels was still on the staff to get him to sign, that gives you an indication of how some coaches go about their recruiting business these days.

These coaches are like faceless salesmen, in it for the buck. They forget that if it weren’t for these students — yes, let’s not forget they’re students ”

Why didn’t Heath tell Famous about the coaching “firing”…..Heath visiting the Famous’s ,at their HOME and LIED to them.

    In your own home…WOW.

    Shaddy….

    This is the real USC.Trojan

  • Seriously, USC.Trojan I can hardly even understand what it is you are saying or trying to get across here on this site at any time. If we were standing face to face I wonder if I would be feeling the same way or not. Have you ever tried to construct a meaningful post that others would actually be able to understand? Help us out here my friend!

  • MoMo….

CBS….”Bottom line, the worst is still to come for USC. “

  • I am just a trojan fan from USC. No hacker.

  • Lots of clouds hanging over the University of Arizona, Pastaboy…clouds like Richard Jefferson, Gilbert Arenas, Andre Iguodala, and Damon Stoudamire coming to campus every summer to workout with the players…clouds like the 9 NBA Championship Rings earned by former AZ players Sean Elliot, Bison Dele (RIP), Steve Kerr, Jud Buechler…clouds like 3 Top 100 players coming in this fall to play for a “boring” coach who’s mid-major team scored 72 points per last season and made the Elite 8 and Sweet 16 in consecutive years. What college kid would even want to be a part of a team that will match-then-break North Carolina’s All-Time consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance Streak? Having a place in NCAA History and a Fraternity of millionaires in the NBA means nothing to a young hoopster. I see where you’re coming from.

You’re right, Pastyboy, Jarrid should probably go to “da Hall.” With just a little luck, he might even be the next Ant’ony Avent. Even St. John’s develops better players like Artest and Felipe Lopez, than that messy Arizona program. If it’s west of Pennsylvania, it’s gotta be crap, right Pastyboy?

  • Actually Maximus I was thinking more along the lines of these clouds ………………………….Arizona basketball program under investigation
The NCAA is investigating Arizona’s basketball program for alleged recruiting violations, according to a notice of inquiry sent to the school’s president.

    TUCSON, Ariz. —
The NCAA is investigating Arizona’s basketball program for alleged recruiting violations, according to a notice of inquiry sent to the school’s president.

The Arizona Daily Star reported on its Web site that the allegations stem from initially self-reported violations involving a recruiting event at the McKale Center, where the Wildcats play.

The NCAA began looking into the matter last year after Arizona reported that then-coach Lute Olson asked donors to give money to support the event, which brings in hundreds of elite athletes for recruitment.

NCAA rules say a school or coach cannot offer or arrange financial assistance, directly or indirectly, to pay for a recruit’s expenses before his university enrollment.

Penalties for violations could include loss of scholarships and recruiting visits.

In its Feb. 6 letter to the university, the NCAA told school president Robert Shelton that it plans to finish the investigation by May 1.

  • Good job backing up your comment, Mr. Pasta. Here are the details of what happened, and what was reported to the NCAA:

Jim Storey, who runs a summer elite camp in Tucson, asked Lute Olson to forward a request for donations to boosters. This is an obvious, although minor, violation of NCAA rules. After 25 years of playing by the books, the general concensus is that this one lapse in judgement by Olson (where the letter was printed on UofA Letterhead and electronically stamped with Coach’s signature) after 27 years of running a clean program could have been a byproduct of the stroke Lute had recently suffered. That’s not an excusse for the violation, but the NCAA will take that into consideration, especially when this is an isolated incident from a coach and school that has a strong compliance history.

The possible ramifications of the self-reported violation would be a letter of reprimand and the possibility of Kyle Fogg and Zane Johnson being required to pay back $50 for pizza, hotel and bus ride to-and-from the airport. OUCH!!! There’s no possibility of probation or scholarship loss from these ominous clouds.

Not exactly monsoon clouds, just the kind that provide a little shade from the desert heat. You’re on point about Lance not being a good fit at AZ, and vice-versa. Word with the team is that Jarrid had a great visit, enjoyed the campus and liked the prospects of playing up front with Kyryl. Stan Heath met with Famous as soon as he landed and basically told him he would be “the man” at USF and his extended family, who lives near Tampa, would be there to watch him play every game. The bad news now, is that Big East rules state that any player who has ever signed a LOI with any Big East school can never recieve a scholarship to play the same sport at another Big East school. I guess that leaves Jarrid to choose from Missouri and Arizona. MU’s had a couple guys sit on NBA benches a few years back…Kareem Rush, Keyon Dooling. They are also recovering from Quinn Snyder’s clouds over their program…Arizona somehow doesn’t seem like such a bad choice with that in mind, does it?

  • All this talk about Arizona …..for a $50.00.

    Are you SERIOUS.

$50.00 dollars for meal and ride……Someone SMACK the NCAA.

Is it me or is the NCAA failing to face the real issues.

Case in point…..why is it taking SOOOOO LONG to come out with the penalities for Tim F.–USC.

  • The “penalties,” Trojan??? The NCAA hasn’t even finished putting together the CHARGES against Timmy-Boy Floyd. Before all is said and done, they’re going to find a way to blame him for the OJ Homicide case. Don’t believe me? Allow me to explain…

The NCAA has already linked OJ Mayo and Reggie Bush’s allegations together into 1 case. Never mind the fact that the two were not enrolled at USC at the same time, and played different sports with different leaches/stoolies involved. That’s not the kind of detail the NCAA is looking for.

Reggie Bush has been doing unmentionalbe deeds to Kim Kardashian (talk about extra benefits…HIGH FIVE REGGIE!!!). Kim’s late father, may he rest in peace, Robert Kardashian was a long-time friend of OJ Simpson, who helped the Simpson defense team (free of charge…more extra benefits), despite later admitting doubts about OJ’s innocence (we’re talking Simpson here, not Mayo…everyone doubts Mayo’s innocence).

Combine all that with the fact that some dude says Timmy-Boy Floyd gave him a G in an envelope in Beverly Hills…not far from Brentwood where Simpson allegedly committed his heinous acts…and the NCAA will find reasonable cause to WAG THEIR FINGER at T-t-Timmayyy!!!

Thank goodness T-Floyd doesn’t send text messages, or they’d find a way to pop him for that, too.
