Khalid Moore, the 6-foot-8, 190-pound Class of 2018 wing from Archbishop Molloy High School and the NY Rens, committed to Georgia Tech on Tuesday following an official visit this weekend.
He also considered Seton Hall. Moore also held offers from Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, UMass, Miami, Syracuse, Virginia, St. John’s, Rutgers, Rhode Island and VCU.
“I felt that they would make me better as a player and person,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “they play at a high level of competition and have a good academic program I can rely on.”
As for Georgia Tech, head coach Josh Pastner has made inroads in New York City, landing former Christ the King point guard Jose Alvarado a year ago. He joins Montverde (FL) Academy point guard Mike Devoe and Norwegian small forward Kristian Sjolund in this year’s class.
“When I was on my official visit I got to see that there were a lot of good things going on,” he told MADEHoops. “I got to know some of the players and once I stepped into the arena I was amazed and felt comfortable. I also got the chance to speak to Jose Alvarado about his experience and he said nothing but great things.”

As for his upside, Moore could be a prototypical high-major wing player.
“Hopefully, I’ll be more consistent shooting the ball and just get a little bigger and stronger,” he told ZAGSBLOG recently. “I think I can be an all-around player who plays offense and defense and attacks the basket.”
“Khalid Moore is as good a 2-way player as you’ll find,” NY Rens coach Chris Alesi told ZAGSBLOG. “With averages of 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists playing on the Nike EYBL circuit, in addition to being an elite defender, I’d argue that there isn’t a more underrated player in the country. In the day and age of positionless basketball, he will be a major addition to the Georgia Tech program.”
Said Molloy coach Mike McCleary: “Khalid has a big upside because he is built like an ACC player. He’s long and lanky with great ball skills. He needs to improve his shooting and strength.”
Moore plays alongside 7-foot-2 1/2 senior big man Moses Brown, who’s being recruited by Maryland, UCLA and Florida State, and 6-3 junior point guard Cole Anthony, who’s being courted by Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Oregon, Miami, UCLA, Indiana and others.
“I think we could be really good,” he said of the Stanners. “We have a lot of pieces, not only me, Cole and Moses but other pieces who can help a lot.”
