John Calipari says FBI probe is a ‘black eye’ on college basketball, Kentucky hasn’t been contacted

During Kentucky’s Media Day on Thursday, John Calipari said the FBI probe into bribery in college basketball is a “black eye” on the sport, and that Kentucky has not been contacted by the FBI or NCAA.

“What’s out there right now is a black eye,” Calipari said. “But here is the thing for everybody here: I don’t want to come across as uneducated or dumb. None of us know where this thing’s going. So for me to really comment much on it, I mean, I don’t know where all this is going.

”

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was “effectively fired” in the wake of the scandal, and Louisville AD Tom Jurich also lost his job, as did several Pitino assistants.

Asked if he would miss the rivalry with Pitino, Calipari said, “Look, it’s unfortunate, all the stuff that’s come down. But let’s talk about my team, please. Does anyone here have a question about my team, please?
”

When a reporter attempted to ask if Calipari had anything to say to his fan base given that the FBI’s probe has now reportedly expanded to Nike schools, of which Kentucky is one, Calipari tried to cut the reporter off.

“I have no comment to it,” he said. “I mean, we haven’t been contacted. The NCAA hasn’t contacted us. We’re going about our business of coaching this team.

How about a basketball question since it isn’t my day.
