After a “long meeting” Monday night with University of New Orleans head coach Mark Slessinger, Mitchell Robinson has eliminated that school from consideration, a source told ZAGSBLOG.
The 7-foot Robinson also visited the New Orleans campus last Wednesday and met with several players, the staff and Slessinger. Deadline for enrollment at the University was Tuesday and Robinson informed the staff he would not be coming.
As of Tuesday evening, Robinson had not committed to Kansas or opted to return to Western Kentucky, multiple sources said.
He already received his release from Western Kentucky, but because Robinson reportedly took two weeks of summer classes at Western Kentucky he would need an NCAA waiver to play immediately in 2017-18 if he transfers.
Robinson also visited LSU, but they are no longer in the mix, sources said.
Kansas, meantime, has recently trended toward adding transfers such as Malik Newman (Mississippi State) Dedric and K.J. Lawson (Memphis) and Sam Cunliffe (Arizona State).
“As far as a 2017 kid who’s eligible right now, something would have to fall in our lap,” Kansas coach Bill Self told the Kansas City Star in Rome. “We’ve got feelers out, but it’d have to be a unique situation.”
