Tim Hardaway wants to play with Carmelo Anthony, but knows he may leave

Having signed his four-year, $71-million deal with the Knicks, Tim Hardaway Jr. would now like to reunite with his mentor Carmelo Anthony.

But he also knows that Anthony could be headed out the door to the Houston Rockets or another team if he waives his no-trade clause.

“Yeah, it’s an odd feeling,” Hardaway Jr. told reporters Monday in Manhattan when he was introduced, per ESPN. “Melo’s got to do what’s best for his family and for him. Yes, we definitely want him back – no question.”

He added: “Just having that veteran leader out there on the floor, a go-to guy who can get you a bucket any given moment of the game, it’s great. It’s great to have that. You want to have that. It’ll be tough for him to leave. But like I say, he has to do what’s best for him and his family.”

La La Anthony has said it’s a “real possibility” that her husband, an eight-time NBA All-Star who has never won an NBA title, could opt to leave the Knicks.
