Elijah Long Talks Texas Visit, Future Plans

Transferring Mount St. Mary’s guard Elijah Long enjoyed his weekend visit to Texas and hopes to make a college decision within the next couple of weeks.

The 6-foot guard averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season at Mount St. Mary’s.

“First of all they know I can take a team to the [March] Madness,” Long said of Texas on Tuesday by phone from Canada. “They said they want me to be able to score the ball on different levels and also lead the team on the court and off the court, bring a lot of energy, compete every day and just basically play my game.”

Mount St. Mary’s coach Jamion Christian served as an assistant under Texas Shaka Smart at VCU so he has a familiarity with the staff.

“He coached under Shaka Smart so he talks highly of him,” Long said of Christian.

At this point, Texas is high on his list.

“As of right now, they’re top,” he said. “They’re definitely up there for sure hands down.”

Long said he also plans to visit Pittsburgh and is also considering George Washington, Hawaii and Ohio State.

“As of now my top are probably Texas, Pitt and George Washington,” he said.

He hopes to decide in the next couple of weeks.

“I have another week of school left and after that it’s summertime,” he said.
