Leondre Washington to Robert Morris

Leondre Washington, the 6-foot, 170-pound point guard from Teaneck (N.J.) High School, verbally committed to Robert Morris on Wednesday following a visit.

Washington also considered Howard, Towson, USF, Wagner and FDU. He also visited Iona.

“I felt comfortable with the coaching staff and the team and it made me feel like I was at home,” he said. “It reminded me of Teaneck a lot.”

He averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.1 steals this past season at Teaneck.

“I’ll bring play-making ability to the team and will provide scoring as well a winning attitude,” he said.

Washington credited his former coach at Roselle Catholic, Dave Boff, with helping him in the recruiting process.

“He would contact me and my family about schools that wanted me and he was talking to schools about me even after I left,” Washington said. “He’s always kept in touch and wished me well throughout my whole senior year. He and coach Tommy Sacks keep in touch with me and that’s big for me because even though I left they still cared for me and that’s real. And that’s what I live by. I respect real people.”

Said Washington’s mother, Mary J. Truesdale-Jenkins: “Coach Boff is someone I consider a friend besides being Dre’s coach for 13 months at RC. I reached out to him and he said he would make a few calls and he did. I love him. He is committed to Leondre with no credit for himself.”

Washington joins point guard Jonathan Williams, small forwards Koby Thomas and Chris Coalmon and power forward Charles Bain in coach Andy Toole’s 2017 class.
