Garrison Brooks, the 6-foot-9 power forward from Auburn (AL) High School, announced his commitment to North Carolina on Friday. Brooks, a former Mississippi State commit, received his release from the Bulldogs earlier on April 11.
His father, George Brooks, is an assistant under head coach Ben Howland at Mississippi State. Brooks chose UNC over Auburn, Georgia, LSU, and Mississippi State. Brooks joins Jalek Felton, Andrew Platek, Brandon Huffman, and Sterling Manley as the fifth commit in UNC’s 2017 class.
UNC will lose Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks to graduation, while freshman Tony Bradley is possibly exploring his NBA draft options. Brooks’ commitment adds depth to UNC inside and gives the Tar Heels the No. 14 ranked recruiting class in 2017 according to 247Sports.
