Michael Porter Jr. has obtained his release from his national letter of intent at Washington and is re-opening his recruitment.
“At this point I have asked the University of Washington for my release and I plan to get that and then reopen my options,” he told King 5 TV in Washington prior to the release. “Washington is definitely still on the list. I would just like to weight all my options and make a decision from there.”

USA Today listed four schools Porter Jr. said he’s considering: Washington, Missouri, Virginia and Oklahoma. He broke down all four for USA Today:
On Washington: “I love Seattle and from what I hear Mike Hopkins is that dude so I’m gonna talk to him and see what he’s saying.” Per Alex Rozier of King5Seattle, Porter Jr. said he has yet to hear from Hopkins.
On Missouri: “That’s home for me and they reached out to my dad with a job offer so if he accepts that, not saying I’ll definitely go there, but it’d be big.” Porter did say that he saw new Mizzou coach Cuonzo Martin when Martin met with his father, but they were not allowed to speak because of recruiting rules. Missouri hired Martin last week and formally introduced him Monday.
On Oklahoma: “They’ve got Trae (Young) and before any commitments happened we talked about being college teammates. Now that opportunity is back and I know we’d do our thing and do something special.”
On Virginia: “I know they’re not super offensive-minded but my best friend Kyle Guy goes there and back when they were recruiting me they always talked about needing a scorer. If I go there I can step into that role.”
Porter Jr.’s mother also told the station that an ESPN report that her husband, Michael Porter Sr., had already been hired by new Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin was false, but added this:
Porter Jr’s mom did tell us that it would be pretty special if Jr ended up at Mizzou, given the family ties to Columbia, Missouri. #Mizzou
