As The World Turns: Lance Stephenson; Parrom Down to Four, Will Visit 2

The world is waiting for Lance Stephenson to make his college decision and sources say he and his family are still  huddling about where he should go.

Here’s what we know today:

**Despite rumors to the contrary, Bill Self will not come to New York this weekend to meet with Lance. Why? The recruiting period is over.

**Self cannot say enough good things about Xavier Henry.

“It’s a huge get,” Self said. “Not only did we get one of the best prospects in the country, a player that certainly fills a need on the perimeter for us, but we also recruited his family for several years and to see everything come full circle and come back to KU, I think it’s a huge get for the University of Kansas.”

**Despite the Henry-to-Kansas news, Stephenson is still said to be considering Kansas and Kansas could still take him. The Jayhawks would have to move one of their scholarship players — Brady Morningstar? — off scholarship. Still, that would leave things awfully crowded on the wing with Sherron Collins, Henry and Stephenson.

**Word is that Stephenson does not want to stay local at St.  John’s and thinks that Gary Williams‘ system at Maryland is too structured. Both of these things make sense, but both St. John’s and Maryland have put the fullcourt press on recently.

That, in turn, could open up the chances of him going to Kansas or even Memphis.

“My guess is that he’s waiting to see what shakes out,” New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski said recently. “If Xavier Henry [goes to Kansas], then maybe [John] Calipari recruits [Stephenson to Kentucky]. Maybe with Josh Pastner [the new head coach] at Memphis, with Sean Miller at Arizona, maybe he’s waiting to hear if they’re looking for players like him.”

Still, sources at both Kentucky and Arizona said they were not actively recruiting Stephenson.

PARROM DOWN TO FOUR, WILL VISIT TWO

Kevin Parrom told Rivals.com he is down to four schools.

“It’s down to Pitt, Arizona, Virginia Tech, and Xavier,” Parrom told Rivals in a text message. “I take an official to Pitt on Sunday and an official to Arizona next weekend.”

St. John’s and South Carolina, which were on his initial list, did not make the cut.

Former Xavier coach Sean Miller and assistant Book Richardson are now at Arizona.

“He really likes Arizona and the coaching staff,” South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson told the Arizona Daily Star.

  • This is way to funny. If this is true i am glad that he isn’t coming to KU!!!!

Seriously, he said that the Maryland structure is too rigid. Did you see Vasquez. That guy was out of control everytime i see them. Good luck Maryland. I thought Lance would be a better get but now that I heard that quote I am on the X wagon.

  • Stephenson cant go to KU……wont get enough playing time. If he goes to KY then he will be playing for the biggest con-artist in the game that has proven he has no integrity (recruiting tactics). Not to mention his Ego problem.
The best option for Stephenson is Mphs. He gets unlimited playing time and stays in the limelight of the Press and Mphs will also have a great team again this year regardless that we had our clock cleaned in the past month.
Enjoy your 2 years at KY Cal. See you in the big dance.

  • I agree Lance will NOT go to Kansas.

This would be the most ridiculous move.
And Self if promoting the Xavier news.
    (has forgotten about Lance.)

    And St.Johns is also out.
I can see this. Not much talent there.

    Maryland offense is not restrictive.
    It is way too restrictive.

So, it is time to move out west.

When Lance visit’s Arizona, he may want to go West Coast.

The West Coast folks are calling his coming to the West as …”Lance-a-lot”.

But, how well does Book and “Lance-a-lot ” know eachother?

  • You can’t be serious about the limelight. Memphis is done. Put a fork in them. They are in the worst conf and now don’t have the “magic man”. You should still kiss Cal’s feet cause without him you guys would be a nothing.

If he doesn’t like Maryland I think he should go to Kentucky. Good coaching is what he needs. St Johns is not a good thing for a kid in the city.

  • lanceisahawk…….lol…..I would have phrased it a little differently, but my thoughts are the same. To structured? Do you think that the kid could use a little structure in his basketball skills? Perhaps it would make him a better player? Let’s be real, there’s a lot of really good coaches out there, but on game day there’s few better than Gary Williams.

I kind of feel bad for the kid, and KU. I mean, obviously he really wants to go to Kansas. But if he does, he won’t get the minutes, and Self will be on the hot seat like no other coach ever to win a title.

Imagine if Stephenson goes to KU and they don’t make it to the Final Four. Wouldn’t that be the biggest fiasco ever in the history of college basketball?

  • Lance is not going to Memphis!!! There are 2 big reasons why, lets examine the 2 reasons why:
    1) They haven’t been recruiting him and now the period is over they won’t have a chance to convince him.
    2) Memphis will not be very good, ok but not good. They have a first year coach, and when I say first year coach, it is someone who has never been a head coach before.
Also keep in mind that Lance has said he wants to play for a team that can win a National Championship, and with a Head Coach that can help him get to the next level. The only school that has recruited him with those requirements is KU and its not even close. KU can make room for him, they have so many guys that are interchangable, he would fit in nicely and help lead us to a National Title.

  • “too structured”?

GW is a Hall of Fame coach who has been around forever. He’s a brilliant coach who will “structure” his offense to fit the talent of his players. The team has played a rigid system recently, until this year, because they had minimal talent and no one that could create.

This past season was OBVIOUSLY much different especially after GW moved GV to point. And remember Steve Francis? Same kind of situation.

  • Has he said he is gonna visit AZ? I thought the recruiting period is over, and they have not showed any interest, or have even said they are interested. This article is saying Lance is waiting to see if they are interested, and again with the recruiting process is over its not likely. I think he may seriously consider going to KU as that is his best option to become better and play for a winning team. All of these other teams are in the process of rebuilding, with no chance at winning a title.

  • lanceisahawk said:

“If he doesn’t like Maryland I think he should go to Kentucky. Good coaching is what he needs.’

You’ve just contridicted yourself… unless, of course, you MEANT to insult Gary Williams.

  • “kind of feel bad for the kid, and KU. I mean, obviously he really wants to go to Kansas. But if he does, he won’t get the minutes, and Self will be on the hot seat like no other coach ever to win a title.”

Trust me as a Kansas fan and living 20 minutes from Lawrence Kansas, Bill Self has filled our cup for a championship. He could have Wall, Cousins, Henry, Collins and Aldrich, and he was unable to win a championship people here would still love Self. Self won’t be on the hot seat anytime soon.

lanceishawk for a Kansas fan you sort of just sound like a deuche when you start trashing a program and fans like Memphis. Obviously we felt not too long ago betrayed by Roy Williams when he left for UNC. I don’t blame the Memphis fans for being a little upset, Coach Cal is a walking tornado. They definetly do not need to kiss his feet, Memphis use to be a solid program, and Cal came back to college basketball with his tail between his legs after a failed NBA coaching attempt. Memphis gave Cal a shot at redemption, and it ended up being a myopic relationship!

  • Done? Put a fork in us? Magic Man? Kiss his feet? There is only ONE that is worthy of kissing his feet and it sure aint CAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you guys smoke out there in Kansas?
You dont use a universities dime to recruit and then use another universities dime to steal what you brought to the other. that is not integrity….that is Ego my freind. If he wanted KY that’s fine, but you should hold up to your original committment that also paid you Millions. It will be interesting to see which ego’s are the biggest….his, the boosters or fans.
By the way………I am glad KU got Xavier and not KY.
Stephenson still needs to be in Mphs.

  • Yes, Gary Williams is in fact a hall of fame coach. But Lance does not want to play at Maryland. Period. Gosh-This has been said like 400 different times but yet the Maryland fans still come on here and talk. WHY?:

Gary Williams = great coach – but your still not getting Lance! Forget about it.

  • 1MphsFan,
You need Lance much more than he needs you. Its not gonna happen, he dosesn’t want to play for a first year coach, with no head coaching experience. He has said as much along with saying he wants to win a National Title and that is not gonna happen at Memphis. You couldn’t do it with Cal, what makes you think you would without him this early in Pastner reign.

  • Pastner did sit down with Lance and his family and that is when Lance put Mphs on his list. Lance was impressed with Pastner. I think our first year coach will surprise a lot of people and not just in Mphs.

  • When? I just hadn’t heard that Pastner had actually met with the family, and that hey were impressed. I had heard that he sent out feelers but that Lance and Family said they were not interested.

Pastner will be good but it will take time, he has 0 head coaching experience. Lance is not gonna go to Memphis, I truely think that KU has as good if not better chance than Memphis, because there are some things that Lance wants: a chance at a National Title, & a Coach who can help prepare him for the next level that is not Pastner and Memphis. Sorry.

  • A-rob how do you know lance does not want to go to UMD. Have you been in Lance’s home talking to him? NO.

To me it’s remarkable that so many unnamed sources have been eager to write Maryland out of the picture for Lance, as if they have some sort of unimpeachable insider info. I’d be willing to bet that none of them have heard that straight from his mouth.

    Why? Consider the following.

    * It was Lance who decided to reconsider the Terps in the first place and said they were one of the three schools in which he had an interest. So are the insiders telling us he didn’t mean what he said?

    * In a late February interview Lance mentioned how James Padgett told him that he’d like it if the two of them could play on the Terps, to which Stephenson responded, “And I’m looking forward to that, too.” Are the “insiders” telling us that he didn’t mean that, even just a little bit?

    * Nearly a month later when Adam Zagoria was assuring everyone that Maryland was out of the picture, Lance reiterated that the Terps were still on his radar. Who knows Lance better, Lance or “insider” Adam?

    * Then last week Lance and his family welcomed Gary Williams into their home. To the objective observer that would indicate a definite interest in the Terps by Lance, but to the all-knowing “insiders” it meant nothing as they continued to assure us that Maryland was already Xed off of Lance’s wish list.

Who knows, maybe Stephenson will go to St. John’s or somewhere else besides College Park, but I don’t think the “insiders” have the answer, either.

There are just too many positive signs pointing to the Terps that they’ve conveniently ignored to place much stock in their prognosticative abilities.

  • KYfanNmamphis

Did you talk to Lance? You seem to have the inside track!!!! Where do you get your info? What are your sources?
    Talk to me Einstein

  • Lance also told the KU Fans “I will be back.” No one really has a clue this is all speculation.

  • Its not about bein Einstein, its about reading other sites and follow the Lance Saga for a while. Back in March it was posted on several sites including this one that he wants to play for National Title, and for a coach who can help him get to the next level and that is when KU became the favorite. Its not an inside track simply the truth, and sorry but if you think Lance needs Memphis for than Memphis needs Lance then are delusional. I am not saying he will end up at Kansas just saying that there is a better chance he ends up there rather than Memphis. Don’t be a jackass just because you are a Memphis fan, and you don’t like reading that someone doesn’t want to be at you school anymore. You need to face it recruits picked Cal not Memphis, doesn’t take Einstein to figue that one out.

  • ESPN.com just reported

Touted forward Darnell Dodson of Miami-Dade CC, Fla., has pledged to the Memphis Tigers.

The 6-foot-7 prospect joins teammate forward Will Coleman of Miami-Dade and ESPNU 100 guard Nolan Dennis of Richland Hills, Texas, in the Tigers’ 2009 recruiting class.

Originally from Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, Md.), Dodson enrolled at Pittsburgh in the summer of 2007, but was informed by the NCAA Clearinghouse that he was not qualified academically. Dodson enrolled at Miami-Dade with the idea of returning to the Panthers in 2009, but can not play at any Big East school because of a rule that states a non-qualifier out of high school who enrolls at a conference school cannot re-enroll at the original school or any other school in the conference after attending a two-year institution.

  • I dont think Cal had enough intrest in BR

  • Another Mempihs recruit leaves, who is gonna be left? Lance is not going to Memphis they don’t have much of recruiting class left, they will still be pretty good only because they play in a horrible conference. Also with this signing Lance is not going to go to Kentucky, they don’t have enough scholarships if Meeks and Patterson come back, plus they are the favorites to get Wall. If Lance wants the spotlight Kentucky is not an option they already have Cousins and if they get Wall those 2 are both rated higher thus more spotlight.

  • Funny how these Kansas fans think the world revolves around them and their team. I’m sure Stephenson can’t wait to play second fiddle behind the prom queen Henry! And pretending like just because he is sitting on the bench and playing for Mr personality that he is guaranteed a National Title is nothing but a joke! If he is smart he will look for a team that won’t throw him under the bus the way that idiot Self did. UK would be the perfect spot to exact some revenge, win a title and get to the next level all in one year. Get on the bus Lance, Coach Cal would never use you the way KU did…..

  • I thought Cal wasn’t recruiting those players already committed to Memphis. He is a slimmy dude. Wouldn’t be suprised that after a couple of years Kentucky isn’t on probation for recruiting violations. Between Cal’s slimminess and WWW, its a good bet.

  • Hey Mikey R……..
Dodson just signed with KY. Where did you get that he committed to Memphis?
Even Mphs has reported that he signed with KY.

  • BigBopper,
Lance is not going to Kentucky, with the signing of Dodson, Cousins, Orton and with a high probability that Meeks and maybe even Patterson returning he wouldn’t get any more minutes there then he would at KU. If he came to KU he would have been second fiddle anyways with or without Henry, since Collins and Aldrich will get most of the spotlight anyway. He would not sit on the bench, he just wouldn’t be the go to guy. And if you think that UK has a better chance to win a National Title than KU you are an idiot. To think that Self is an idiot is an idiotic remark, afterall he has a National Title that he won over your over hyped Coach. KU will be much better than UK next year.

  • Hey bigbopper,
dont be so sure that CAL wont use someone. CAL would throw him under the bus in a heart beat.
All of you NOW Cal lovers are incredible. You hated him when he was at Mphs and trash talked him and called him all kind of names.
Now he is at “BIG KY” and all of a sudden he is a GOD.
    You gotta be kiddin’ me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KY is a petroleum jelly isn’t it?????

  • Actually Stephenson would fit it far better at UK than at Kansas and would get significant minutes at either small forward or 2 guard. I could see him as the perfect compliment to Wall or Meeks. If he cares about getting to the NBA sooner than later, media exposure and playing for the most charismatic coach in America then UK would be a great choice. I can’t think of a worse place to go than the team and coach who didn’t care enough about you to not recruit over you at the end of the recruiting period and leave you without many options but to stay and be miss congeniality to the drama queen…..

  • 1MphsFan,
He signed a Letter of Intent to attend Memphis, and was let out of that commitment. Do you even follow your own team and who they sign? By the way it doesn’t take Einstein to figure this out as its being reported the exact same way on this hear blog, ESPN, and RIVALS.

  • hey slimball fan in Mphs.
its all over the news that he signed with KY. Do you not keep up with the news Eonstein?

  • Why would he not fit in at KU as a 2 guard or small forward? Henry and Stephenson are interchangable. Collins, Henry, Stephenson, Morris, & Aldrich. Better than any starting 5 in the country. UK will not get more media exposure than KU, KU will be the Number 1 team in the country and favorite to win the National Title. As far as going to the NBA, Self put 5 guys in the NBA last season, Cal did have the number 1 player in the Draft but no one after that. Don’t be KU hater, you are dogging on Self and Henry because KU won out for his services.

  • Ku fan n mphs,
your asking me if I read the news?
how can you even ask if CAl is recruiting our players? he has been doing it since the moment he left and it has been all over the news.

That is why I called you Einstein earlier. Glad I am not that smart!!!

  • I know he signed with Kentucky, I said he signed with Memphis and then was let out of the commitment. Mike R put the wrong school in. Lets use some common sense here. Don’t questoin me, look at my post right below here where I said Memphis lost another recruit, don’t be a jackass. Simple mistake.

  • I was being sarcastic. I thought that was obvious, with callimg him a slimmy dude, apparently not. I was refering to his interview on several outlets where he said that he wasn’t recruiting players that had commited to Memphis, and the he was telling them to stay.

  • Please read my post below as it is reply to your ignorant commit.

  • Just to clarify, Coach Cal did not go after players that were committed to Memphis, the players de-committed and choose to pursue other alternatives. Please stop the whining about how he stole your players. They committed to play for him and did not want to play for Pastner. Get over it!

  • Big Bopper
You stick to your story and I hope you believe it.
By the way, I will be annointed the POPE next week and you should give me a call so I can Bless You.

  • BigBopper,

    ————————

Yeah right…. I guess we might as well just hand Mr Personality the trophy since the almighty Jayhawks supposedly have the best team on paper according to KU fans….

LOL! What a setup for a crash and burn come next season. I can’t wait to see the final package Coach Cal puts on the floor for new season. Keep smacking away and see what happens when the Big Blue and it’s fans under a real Coach begin to roar!!!!

  • KU fan N Mphs
I think we might be on the same page somewhat. It has been fun messing with you. It is extrremely obvious what Cal has been doing. I think BigBopper is doing LSD or something.
Even though you are a Kansas fan I still have to give you some credit for living in Mphs. Go Tigers!!!!!!

Ku will be dinamite this coming year.

  • Big Bopper
You stick to your story and I hope you believe it.

    ———————–

As soon as you provide evidence to the contrary I will quit assuming that you are just another homer fan who is mad that his coach left followed by some of the players he recruited wanting to leave as well. BTW – it happens with every team when a coach leaves, including UK. Please get a freaking clue and stop the whining!!!

  • KU fan N Mphs

    LOL!

Maybe you two should get a room together and console each other because Coach Cal has done you both wrong……

  • so your telling me that Cal did not go visit any of the recruits from Memphis?
Is that what your telling me?

And NO, it doesn’t happen with every coach that leaves a team.

  • and maybe you should get a room for you and your farm animal.

  • Maybe I’m missing something, but who has a better team coming back next year than Kansas?

  • I don’t understand why lance doesn’t seriously consider arizona. I understand it’s far from NYC. Sean Miller is a great coach, and lance knows Book richardson from the AAU circuit in NYC. He will get immediate playing time at AZ and will be the go to guy with nic wise (wise will come back). Arizona is right now a bubble team for next year, but stephenson will make them a sweet 16 contender. Possibly even more.

  • Plenty of teams. Is Kansas suddenly unbeatable because they signed Henry? Just wondering…He wasn’t all that impressive in the last couple of all star games I saw and his ranking went from number one to number 8 over the last few months. Not saying he isn’t a great prospect, but the hype is a little over the top….

Being the preseason favorite is often times nothing more than a curse.

The recruiting season is not even over yet and already people are hailing this team or that team as being favorite to win it all….

    Gotta love it!

  • Coach Cal has not done me wrong. As a KU fan I couldn’t be happier.

  • This is awesome. The Flex offense is too structured? God forbid a team actually runs a set play. The only play I’ve ever seen Lincoln run is the “give the ball to Lance” play. Yeesh.

Gary’s offense wasn’t too structured for Steve Francis or Juan Dixon. Wow, “too structured” please get over yourself. He’s a 5-Star McD AA and three (3) schools were recruiting him? UCLA and UNC at one time took a peak and backed away.

Since he’s not high on structure he may as well go to one of those schools where they don’t require the “student” atheletes to actually go to class like Louisville or Memphis.

  • Makes sense, but I suspect that LS wants to play for a coach that is proven who can get him to the big show in the shortest period of time. It’s a tougher sell for the newer coaches in a rebuilding mode or sorts, but Zona would be definitely be a good choice no doubt.

  • Great news. Josh Barr has a detailed article up now at washingtonpost.com on today’s verbal commit to Maryland of Terrence Ross! (2010)

  • Way to expound – “Plenty of teams” – I guess that ends the argument. Funny how when an East Coast team is favored to win, North Carolina comes to mind, nobody finds that outrageous and most folks are quick to jump on board and rave about how tough the ACC is and how nobody is going to stop that particular team… Yet, when Kansas is clearly the best team coming back, and let me emphasize that, the best team coming back, suddenly Kansas fans are foolish to think their team has any right to be a Pre-Season #1.

Sorry to burst your bubble BigBopper, but Kansas is the team to beat next year as much as your weak and tired argument woefully suggests otherwise… They return the top 10 scorers from a Sweet 16 team, including two of the best at their position in Sherron and Cole, they’ve got a Top 10 recruiting class coming in and the team goes 14 deep as of right now before redshirts are handed out… Give me a better team on paper… Kansas knows the pressure is on them next year – National Championship or the season is doomed a failure and everybody at the KU Basketball Offices knows that… Keep up the hate all you naysayers on the East Coast or wherever you’re at – because you’re good at what you do – Hate… Kansas is used to it, they hated on KU in 2008, and well, ask Coach Cal and Roy how that turned out… KU will be National Champs in 2010 – Because that’s how Jayhawks Do.

  • BigBopper,

Plenty of teams have a better team comming back next year than KU? That is just a stupid comment, it really is. I am a KU fan and its obvious you are a UK fan but don’t let your allegiance to UK blind you to the fact that KU is the team to beat going into next year. No one is saying that KU is unbeatable but you can’t seriously deny the fact that KU has the best team coming in next year and its not even close.

Don’t start dogging Henry because the only reason you are is because he chose KU over UK, there has been a lot of movement in the Top 10, and comparing what he did in the All Star Games to what he has accomplished over his High School years and AAU time is just ridiculous. If UK had signed Henry you would have been on here talking about how UK was gonna be a favorite going into next year.

Being a preseason favorite worked out pretty well for UNC this past year or did I miss something??? And actually the recruiting season is over according to what Adam has already reported, the only thing we are waiting on now is final visits and where everyone will land.

  • Before last year you guys haven’t won in 20 years @ Freddy. Nobody is worried about KU except for those chumps in the Big 12.

  • KU will be National Champs in 2010 – Because that’s how Jayhawks Do.

    —————————–

Let’s see if your still talking smack after your pi$$ ant team and coach lay an egg in the big dance next season…

If Cal gets Wall and adds another pg for depth, I would take UK or UNC’s chances to make to the title game over KU and their usual overrated hype all day long…

BTW – Wall >>>>Henry and his brother combined……

Funny that a kid commits to a school only because his mom pressured him too after even committing to another school the year before and KU fans act like it was his dream to play for the gayhawks…..

    You guys are pure delusional…

  • Teams should be worried because KU is returning all major contributors from last year and signed a Top 10 recruiting class. Also we still have a shot at Lance no matter what anyone says. So really the question becomes why wouldn’t you be worried about the Jayhawks? Even being the favorites next year I am worried about having to play Texas this upcoming season, they look like they are going to pretty good with who they have returning (James will come back) and who is coming in. The point is there are teams out there that everyone worries about so to say nobody will be worried about the Jayhawks is stupid.

  • “Funny how these Kansas fans think the world revolves around them and their team. I’m sure Stephenson can’t wait to play second fiddle behind the prom queen Henry! And pretending like just because he is sitting on the bench and playing for Mr personality that he is guaranteed a National Title is nothing but a joke! Talk about the ironic comment to date on this blog!!!!!

First, the word usage and grammar is horrible, which points to an obvious Kentucky fan, check below.
“And pretending like just because he is sitting on the bench and playing for Mr personality that he is guaranteed a National Title is nothing but a joke”

    Wow…..

Moving on, I find it amusing he accuses Coach Self of throwing Lance under the bus, but yet didn’t Cal basically do that with the entire Memphis basketball program? The fact that he was trying to recruit the Henry’s whose brother who was a Memphis player, and other Memphis recruits is deplorable! Cal could have taken a different approach and made a choice to do some heavy recruiting next year. Instead he finds it more practical to serve his megalomaniac ways and try to rape and pillage as much as possible from Memphis this year.

Have fun with that UK!!! You screwed a good thing when you let Billy go!

  • They can’t see through the PHOG, man. They can’t see through the PHOG.

  • Coach Cal = Automatic win for Big 12 opponent

  • Let’s see, Three Final Fours in the last nine years, two National Title trips and one victory… You can probably count on one hand how many teams have done that in the last decade, UNC, MSU, UConn… Hey, everybody does that though right? I forgot how superior every team outside of the Big 12 is… Well, don’t be worried about KU then… Like I said, the haters have plenty of hate but not much else to offer… See you Busters in Indy next year.

  • I don’t think Billy was a good thing @ all. He had way too many DUI’s that went public and he didn’t like doing the little things like kissing alumni ass and attending banquets and make public speeches for the school. He wasn’t a big community guy, so with that I think he wasn’t right for the job.

  • You are delusional to take UK over KU even if they get Wall. Will UK be good, yes, but inexperienced, and as well as all know experience plays a big role when it comes Tourny Time. As for UNC they will be good but they have to replace a lot next year and will be inexperienced at key positions next year as well.

There is a lot of “if’s” in your scenerio for UK to even be considered, where as KU is already the favorite witout the “if’s.” I will be laughing when UK doesn’t get Wall or another PG and they struggle next year with no PG (which Cal’s Offense needs to be successful) and they barely get into the tournament, while KU is locking up a Number 1 Seed.

Don’t let your allegiances blind you to the fact that KU is the best team heading into next year.

  • I’m not hating on KU @ Fred. I just don’t like their arrogant fans like you, who think they’re gonna win every year, so I’m busting your ballz a bit. It’s hard to guarantee a championship when you’re not the one playing, don’t you think?

  • Let’s see if your still talking smack after your pi$$ ant team and coach lay an egg in the big dance next season…

If Cal gets Wall and adds another pg for depth, I would take UK or UNC’s chances to make to the title game over KU and their usual overrated hype all day long…

BTW – Wall >>>>Henry and his brother combined……

Wow, I can sense the rage in which a tool like Bigpooper wrote that post. If the Henry’s chose UK this guy would be ranting and raving, about how great they were and how they will restore UK back to glory.

It’s amazing how guys like him are willing to invest all their hope in a coach who seems to choke at every chance he gets at a shot at a title.

He is a good recruiter I will give him that (in the sense that he is good passing money into agents and AAU coaches hands) but loves choking see Missouri and Kansas game.

  • KU fans think that the world revolves around our program????? You are joking right? Its funny how you guys were salivating for the chance to have X, and now he isn’t coming to your program, you trash him. You guys grab Calipari because you’re desparate, willing to do the slimy recruiting things that Cal does, and you think that your program is still the “elite” program by quoting stats from 10 years ago. UK is one of the storied basketball programs in the country, but with Cal in charge, all that will happen is you miss your free throws in the final minutes and get your a**es out-coached in tight games against real competition.

  • Yeah, but you can consistently predict who could win the championship this years UNC two years ago Florida, UConn a few years back. It is not arrogant to say KU is the odds on favorite to win the title, if they truly are the odds on favorite. That is not arrogance, its a coincidence that we are KU fans who state KU is the odds on favorite to win the title.

  • Arizona will not be a national title contender this year! Or next! Or the year after that. Why would Stephenson want to go to a program that has be decimated, and is in a MAJOR rebuilding project?

  • Who is consistently predicting those teams will win, the media is. Is the media right every year? Hell no. You guys came on late last season, made a run in the tournament and all of sudden you have a championship team?! Get the hell outta here.

  • Let’s not get into the whole “you’re not playing” argument, that’s asonine and a complete cop-out…. I guess when your team sucks and you can’t expect to win every year, that’s your problem… And guess what, the nice thing about being a fan is you can guarantee a championship – whether its rational or not is another thing – but any college basketball fan with an iota of sense – which eliminates a couple of you imposters on here – knows that KU is loaded next year… But I guess its taboo on here to represent your team and be proud of one of the greatest and winningest college basketball programs… But I guess being a KU Fan – and yes – expecting to make a titel run every year, well, I guess that’s our problem.

Sherron Collins on Kansas’ success: “It’s what we’re supposed to do. It’s Kansas.”

  • Moving on, I find it amusing he accuses Coach Self of throwing Lance under the bus, but yet didn’t Cal basically do that with the entire Memphis basketball program? The fact that he was trying to recruit the Henry’s whose brother who was a Memphis player, and other Memphis recruits is deplorable! Cal could have taken a different approach and made a choice to do some heavy recruiting next year. Instead he finds it more practical to serve his megalomaniac ways and try to rape and pillage as much as possible from Memphis this year.

Have fun with that UK!!! You screwed a good thing when you let Billy go!

    ——————–

Yeah just think if we had Billy G we would have no D Cousins, no pg prospects and no hope for next season…

Cal never once recruited over a guy at the very end of the signing period like that cornhole Self did….Mainly because he never had too…

Henry fell in the cornhole’s lap simply because his mommy pressured him to go there rather than play for the Coach he originally committed too…I find that rather pathetic not to mention how classless it was to just ignore a kid like Stephenson who truly wanted to play for KU all along (why I have no idea)….

Self and KU fans are the biggest hypocrite losers there are outside of dUKe fans…No wonder everyone else loves it when they underachieve…

  • Yea it’s Kansas alright, every 20 years. LOL. Don’t make a promise you can’t keep Freddy.

  • I love how these idiot KU fans think Coach Cal should just have ignored the recruits who wanted to follow him to UK, but have no problem stealing one of his recruits who’s mommy practically forced him to play for KU while throwing another kid under the bus who had wanted to play there,,,,

    What hypocrisy!

Why aren’t you morons on here suggesting that the Henry’s stay committed to Memphis rather than switch to your saintly gayhawks?

Answer – You are farm animal loving hypocrites, that’s why!

  • And your argument that a fan can say his tema is gonna win every year is complete bull. If I were a fan of a team let’s say Manhatan for example, and said we’re gonna win this year, you guys would kill me. Just like the UK fan is saying if they get Wall they’ll win and you guys are killing him. Saying there is no way they will win, how can you say that without any evidence? You haven’t even seen what UK or KU’s floor product looks like. All you have to go off of is what the team looks like on paper. Teams that look good on paper aren’t always the best.

  • They made the sweet 16, why wouldn’t they think they are the most dominant team going into next season and possibly the greatest team to ever play the game, period?

    LOL!!

  • Came on late? We were undefeated in Big 12 play until late in the season. No one expected us to be good because we had lost a lot from the previous year team, but we were, and we got better throughout the year. Collins and Aldrich turned into the the best PG and C combination in the country, that is one reason why KU is the favorite right now. Not to mention they didn’t lose anyone that contributed last year on a Sweet 16 team and they signed 3 highly recruited players.

When it comes to predicting its always the media making the predictions that everyone talks about because they are the ones on TV with exposure. When everyone said UNC was gonna be the favorite for this past year no one really doubted it. But you are right it is all of a sudden but we are a championship team and KU just has to go out and win it now. Will it be easy no, it never is, no one is saying KU will be undefeated but we do have the best returning team in the country. By the way if not KU then who is the favorite going into next year?

  • “Cal never once recruited over a guy at the very end of the signing period like that cornhole Self did….Mainly because he never had too…”

Bigblopper Coach Cal just did that, read above zasblog posts. He luered yet another original Memphis recruit to play for him at Kentucky……..Either your blind, or an idiot and I honestley can’t tell probably both.

This next post is where it gets good

“I love how these idiot KU fans think Coach Cal should just have ignored the recruits who wanted to follow him to UK, but have no problem stealing one of his recruits who’s mommy practically forced him to play for KU while throwing another kid under the bus who had wanted to play there,,,,”

So in the first quote we have Bigblopper denying the fact that Cal recruited someone at the very end of a signing period and then we have him saying how it is ok that Coach Cal in fact DID recruit players away from Memphis!!!!!

Finish it off with his last line

    “What hypocrisy!”

HA are you kidding me? He is calling KU hypocrites? I don’t have to make a case for Bigbloppers hypocrisy he does it himself!!!!!! This guy will argumentaively slit his own throat, he is a spitten image of the University of Kentucky Pussycats new coach……….A walking train wreck of vanity and contradcictions.

  • Guys. Isn’t this a Lance Stephenson thread? Can you go somewhere else and throw rocks at each others teams?

  • “They made the sweet 16, why wouldn’t they think they are the most dominant team going into next season and possibly the greatest team to ever play the game, period?

    LOL!!”

Show me one post that stated KU is possibly the greatest team to ever play the game?

Also, this same guy who states KU doesn’t deserve to be considered to win the national tournament after making it to the Sweet 16 states about Kentucky’s chances:
“If Cal gets Wall and adds another pg for depth, I would take UK or UNC’s chances to make to the title game over KU and their usual overrated hype all day long… ”

He is making this statement about a Kentucky team who failed to make it to the tournament!!!!!! But then goes on to act as if by thinking KU could win the tournament that we are the idiots?

    KU 2009=Sweet Sixteen

UK2009=Looses in the Elite Eight………of the NIT

his prediciton UK will somehow be better?

    WOW!

  • HA are you kidding me? He is calling KU hypocrites? I don’t have to make a case for Bigbloppers hypocrisy he does it himself!!!!!! This guy will argumentaively slit his own throat, he is a spitten image of the University of Kentucky Pussycats new coach……….A walking train wreck of vanity and contradcictions.

    —————————–

Notice the cornhole fan did not argue the facts I presented against his team and coach, but instead tries to create a new argument against Coach Cal…

Also note how he ignores my accusation of recruiting OVER a player at the end of the recruiting period and instead just accuses Coach Cal of recruiting at the end of the recruiting period, which is a simply ludicrous criticism since he has no choice but to do so and is hardly a crime for any coach to recruit up until the deadline as long as it is done without throwing another kid under the bus who had been counting on being a pivotal part of the team’s plans….

Sorry, you guys fail at everything……

  • Any new news on Lance?

  • Xavier’s Mom: You’re going to KU young man, you ain’t visiting no damn UK.

Xavier: But mom, I don’t wanna go there and I already told the Shiver CJ and I were gonna visit this weekend. Their fans prefer ballhogging Lance over me, I’m a team player and I can actually shoot!

Carl Henry: Ahhh, no buts about it. You’re gonna listen to your mother and me. We know best. Besides, I already told Adam Zagoria that you weren’t visiting UK and I don’t want him or myself for looking like an a-hole for putting out the wrong information again.

Xavier (with tears coming down his cheek): Fine, I’ll make the announcement tomorrow.

Carl Henry: Good, it’s settled then. I’ll have our lawyers draw up a speech for you. Keep it short and sweet and don’t answer any questions as to why you chose KU over UK.

  • What facts did you present? When it comes to the recruitment of X he was set to announce for KU and then big bro went to Memphis, and he changed to play with big bro (I am sure the was a coincidence). Then after X opted out of someplace he didn’t really want to be, he was re-recruited by UK & KU and KU won out. The point people are making about Cals recruiting is that it just looks shady when he says he is recruiting any player that had signed with Memphis, but all of a sudden X choses KU, and Dodson opts out of Memphis, commits to UK all in less than 24 hrs, it just looks a little shady. If Lance was really thrown under the bus then why did he wait to announce for another school if KU pissed him off so much, he didn’t because KU didn’t throw him under the bus he just doesn’t want to play with X and Self was straight with him saying they wanted to sign both.

  • You must have been there during this conversation, you are just being a KU hater.

  • Face it, you guys don’t have 20-25 scholarships like the football team does. If Lance really wanted to go to KU regardless of X he would have not waited for X to announce. so your chances of still signing him are very slim. We’ve all seen the footage of X say he wouldn’t have a problem playing with Lance but i’ve yet to hear that said from Lance. Nobody knows where he’s going. All of your sources are wrong. The decision obviously wasn’t as easy as the media and public assumed.

  • Lance did really want to go to KU but he didn’t want to play with X, because he wanted the spotlight and didn’t want to share it. However, now that X has decided, Lance is still considering KU and the reason is because once he thought it over it may be still the best option. That is my opinion, wanted to make that clear because I don’t want someone taking that as fact.

  • You guys didn’t want X a couple days ago. My, how things have changed in the PHOG.

  • You guys at UK really wanted X and now he is just a mommas boy who’s skill are dropping off.

  • Sry KU fan, ain’t buying it. I’m sure he already thought about the idea of playing with X @ KU and his conclusion was he didn’t like it. That’s why he waited to see where he was going.

  • I’m not a UK fan. I’m just a humble observer of the college hoops world.

  • Then why is it still being reported that he is considering KU? He waited to see where X would go because he didn’t initally want to play with X, but maybe after thinking about it he realizes that the best place to improve, get some good pub, and win is at KU. I don’t wanna hear this he should go to UK, Memphis, or AZ, the only teams that have a shot at him are KU, Maryland, & Saint Johns.

  • Why would Lance want to go to KU after Self essentially b*tch slapped him, threw him to the curb, and then signed X?

Lance is not going to KU.

  • If you were a “humble” observer you would be able to say that KU is loaded and the favorite to win the title next year.

  • It was Lance’s decision to not commit, Self went to NYC talked to Lance and told him they wanted him but they were actively recruiting X but they wanted they both. Not really a bitch slap, just being strait instead of lying saying you are the one we want we are not going after X and then get the commitment and turning around and going after X, that would be a bitch slap.

  • All but a wk ago Adam was saying Maryland was definitely out of it but here we are a wk later and Gary is @ Lance’s house talking about how big of an impact he would have on the program and how he could change the recruiting landscape @ College Park. Needless to say, Adam could be wrong again.

  • Lance is the one that backed out of his commitment when the whole Cal thing went down. KU and Self didn’t throw this kid under the buss. KU would have taken either kid. As for X, you can obviously tell that people are upset that he didn’t pick UK. Saying that his parents forced them to go to KU is stupid. If they were going to force them they would have done it to begin with and the kids would have never signed with Memphis. KU was being talked about as one of the favorites for next season without Lance or X. And for you that say it’s just a team on paper until they play, well no it isn’t. KU returns every player from last year and they were picked as a legitimate favorite just the way they were. Getting X is just icing on the cake. Not all KU fans are running around saying they will automatically win a title. That is stupid and I personally hate being the favorite going in to the season but KU is going to be very good next year. So will Duke, Texas, Purdue and Michigan State just to name a few.

  • He was forced, man. We seen footage of him saying he was gonna visit then a couple days later his dad says he’s not gonna visit and he’s going to KU? Seems pretty shady to me. How did he come to the conclusion he wanted to go to KU? If he wanted to follow his parents footsteps he would have chose KU the first time around. And they forced him this time cause they were getting sick of being bombarded with cameras and microphones everywhere they went. That’s all Carl kept saying ” I’ll be glad when all this is over and ” I wish they would just get on with it so they can prepare for where they’re headed next year.” And like I said before. You scumbag KU fans were suggesting that you make websites geared toward detering Xavier from comitting to KU. You guys never wanted him in the first place. Only ppl that wanted him in KU was his parents and MAYBE the coaching staff. LOL.

  • And didn’t one of your beloved fellow fans say that his source told him that Self suggested he held off on his announcement so that they could see if his website didn’t violate any NCAA rules?

  • Can Lance even get into St. Johns and Maryland? LOl

  • X said he would visit UK, then Carl (dad) said there would be no visit, then X called dad and said he wanted to visit, and finally CJ said there was not gonna be a visit. Plese get your facts straight. X did want to come here but he felt it necessary to go and play with with his brother and when he got in his car wreck his mother wanted him to go to Memphis (Reported on Rivals radio by Jayhawkslant guy) to keep the family togather, again please get your facts straight. Also, the coaches from the get go always wanted X and they were crushed when he chose Memphis, as soon as he was released they wanted him and that never wavered (Bill Self interview). And finally, not all KU fans were in the boat of not wanting X, so once again get your facts stright.

  • I love all the hate coming from everyone about Kansas. Bill Self must be doing something right to strike a nerve with all you people. It is a great time to be a KU fan.
And Gohard aka Sling Blade with your spelling, punctuation, and grammar I would seriously doubt you could get accepted to cosmetology school. You strike me as the type of guy that hangs around the men’s room and smells other people’s shi# all day long. As a KU fan it’s good to be the king. Keep the hate coming, we love it!!!

  • The best you can you do to come up with a defense is talk about my spelling, grammar, and say that “I’m hating” LOL. What a cop out. Ha! You guys are pathetic. @ flimsy mizzou.

  • These are just a few comments made by some of your fellow UK fans from CatPause

“It was tempting just because of [Calipari],” Xavier Henry said. “Me and my brother, I don’t think we ever really followed Kentucky. We knew about the tradition, but we never actually followed them. Kentucky wasn’t that much of a pull, but Coach Cal was a big pull for us.”

1.That quote tells you a lot about where the Kentucky “brand” has been for the last few years. We just aren’t thought of like we used to be.

2.We have fallen quite a bit over the years. We aren’t even the best team in the SEC much less the nation. But with Cal in the picture at least we are in the conversation again 🙂

    3. Kentucky is an all-time top 3 program, but the school has not been relevent for the last decade. When you are 18 years old, you may have been following college hoops for 8-10 years? The Kentucky brand just hasn’t been there for kids this age

now here are some facts about the last 30 years

UK has 2 titles in the last 30 years (*since 1979)

KU has 2 titles in the last 30 years.

UK has 5 final 4’s in the last 30 years.

KU has 7 final 4’s in the last 30 years.

UK is 772-257 in that time span (.750 winning %)

KU is 787-223 in that time span (.779 winning %)

I guess if you’re 70 years old and remember watching any Rupp teams play, kudos to you. But the last 30 years of the modern era, since the tournament went to it’s modern format (not size, format) in 79, Kansas has been better than Kentucky.

    .

  • Have fun watching Kansazz fall flat their face next season.

  • haha that made me laugh regardless

  • As a KU fan, I’ll be rooting for Memphis next year. Cal did them dirty. You don’t see any articles but it has been said by Xavier Henry and Cousins that Cal encouraged them to put in the clause to allow them to leave if he leaves. Pretty clear that he was planning on leaving and taking them with him. Plus it was all done on Memphis’ dime. Never seen a college program buy another’s like UK has done to Memphis. I hope Lance finds a good home, whether it is St. John’s Maryland or somewhere else. For those saying X didn’t want to come to KU… It is nothing further from the truth. He didn’t go to Memphis for Cal, he went to play with CJ and keep his family together. He has been saying all along that KU was his first choice. CJ went to Memphis first because Cal promised him PT since Rose went pro and X followed to be with CJ. Simple as that. UK will be pretty good next year, there will be a lot of talent but it will be messy with the holdovers and implementing a new system. Hopefully UK and IU can get back to the status that they once have, but they haven’t in the last decade.

  • Just like they did a year ago right? It is pretty damn easy to pick apart your spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues. It is like proofreading my 6 year old nephew’s homework. It only further illustrates what a complete and total moron you are, as if you foolish generalizations didn’t make you look stupid enough. Please just admit that Kansas and Bill Self are better than your team. It is okay man, they are better than a lot of teams. Once you come to grips with KU’s superiority, get a job, and move out of your mom’s basement you can live a happy life.

  • Just for clarification, my name Letemhang is from a quote by Darnell Jackson – “Let your nuts hang, just let em hang.” It is in no way a reference to the violent act of hanging people. Maybe I should change it to LetYourNutsHang… Adam, you think I can get away with having “nuts” in my name?

  • My all time favorite Jayhawk!! D Block was great. I’m so happy he getting some PT on a damn good Cleveland team. You see Gohard Self puts players in the league. Does your coach do that??

  • Also… about Cal not recruiting over someone… wasn’t it Nolan Dennis, former Memphis commitment who wanted to follow Cal to UK but Cal was waiting on X and just didn’t answer any of Nolan’s calls? Nolan’s mom was in the media lately talking about them getting blown off.

  • Yup, D Block was the freaking man and a great story. He was what, a 3-star kid coming out of high school? Now getting significant PT with a playoff team.

  • Right, I’m a moron cause I’m bashing KU fans. If I were giving praise you’d be singing a different tune or not singing at all. KU can be superior all they want in your neck of the woods; nobody’s checkin’ for them but Big 12 rivals and classless KU fans who’d rather see a poor lil’ guy from Kansas ride the bench all season long to have a shot @ Lance. How pathetic is that?

  • KU is top 3 program nationally. Everyone is “checkin” them as it has been since the inventor of the game started the program as its first coach. Hence, the national championship last year and number 1 preseason ranking next year BEFORE we landed Xavier Henry.

Here are some stats from a good story – ESPN did a statistical analysis of the “most prestigious programs” last year since the expansion of the Tourney in 84-85. It was 1 Duke, 2 KU, 3 UNC and 4 UK. KU is #3 in all time wins less than 20 behind UK and UNC out of close to 2,000 total wins for each

    2. KANSAS JAYHAWKS, Big 12 – Since 1984-84
22 conference titles (14 regular-season, 8 tourney); 8 30-win seasons; 23 NCAA berths; 8 No. 1 seeds; 15 Sweet 16s; 7 Final Fours; 1988 and 2008 national titles; 58 NCAA tourney wins; 13 All-Americans; 5 NBA top-10 picks; 0 losing seasons. The Jayhawks had eight 30-win seasons in the time span, tied for the most with Duke.

Maryland was number 28 – a solid program. If you are going to talk trash. Do it in a logical manner with examples, or factual statements. If you are going to say a team is better than KU’s next year. Give a team, and why they will be better next year.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3501739

  • Why you’re bringing Maryland into this debate is beyond me and all that research you just did is history. What does your present team have to do with any of that, hmmm? And if you wanna talk about ,don’t forget to mention before last year the last time you all won a championship was in ’88. That’s why nobody is checkin’ for ya. :oP. Bring up some reasons about why you’re willing to ask a hometown kid to ride the bench for a year and pay his own tuition for a recruit. I’d love to hear it.

  • “we’re soo superior, our two recent championships are twenty years apart but I feel like we can win this thing every year.” – DelusionalJayhawkfan4

  • Are you not a Maryland fan?

“All that is history”… Ok, well what about the future – such as next year. KU is preseason #1. You have been asked multiple times to give a team that will be better and why. You haven’t answered.

You ask why KU is willing to ask a hometown kid to ride the bench for a year and pay his tuition. First off, no hometown KU player has been asked to pay his own way. There is an internet rumor that Brady Morningstar’s Dad (Roger Morningstar, former KU player) has offered to pay tuition if it benefits the team. It hasn’t happened and there has been no real info to substantiate the rumor.

Second, these hometown kids (such as Reed and Morningstar) know coming into a program like KU that Bill Self’s goal is to win championships. These kids, who are good players have a choice to make when they get out of high school: Play for a good program and get plenty of minutes, or play for KU and get limited minutes on a team that is going to win championships. Most of them choose KU because they have been fans their whole life and would rather be a part of something bigger than be a big fish in a small pond. They are in no way victims and are loving every minute of it. They get to tell their kids and grandkids what it was like to play at Allen wearing a KU jersey which gives them a huge sense of pride.

  • Well, good luck to whatever team you root for. You can’t blame any fan for being excited about an upcoming season if thier team is the majority pick to win it all.

  • Gohard= D-Bag
    Enough said.

  • Self’s nuts will be under your chin for years to come. Get used to it Gohard.

  • Gohard= K-state or Mizzou fan. He can’t even come up with who might be better next year. Never brings up his own team- just flames on ours.

  • Brady Morningstar has volunteered to pay his own way. Did you hear that Gohard.
The guy’s family is loaded and his father is a former player. You see Bill Self recruits guys that buy in to a team concept and want to win. That is what happens when guys play for a program such as Kansas

  • I love the 20 years apart blast. Please consider how many programs have 0 championships in their history. Your douchery amazes me!

  • KUfanNmemphis …. for a self proclaimed “know it all”, YOU ACTUALLY PRETTY STUPID.

Your handle suggest you live in Memphis but to make some of the statements you are making, if your are in Memphis, YOU MUST BE LIVING UNDER A ROCK.

“Memphis will not be very good, ok but not good.” – Memphis should have The best front courts they have had in the last ten years with the additional of LW (i.e. he recently got his list down to two Memphis & Georgetown) and should easily complete with any of the top programs. With the addition of couple of quality guards you have yourself a Recipe for a Final Four run.

You have mentioned playing for a 1st year coach – IF YOU HAD ANY KNOWLEDGE OF CAL you would know he is a so-so game coach at best as evidenced by “Giving Away Natl Champioship” to you this past year. Pastner is known as an excellent XO’s coach and is quickly developing a seasoned staff that has to be considered brilliant (i.e. not to mention the little time he has spent to do it).

As far as Stephenson goes, again YOU DISPLAY A CONSIDERABLE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE about the player himself. Stephenson abosolutely does not want to be stuck in a crowd.

It is more likely YOU MUST RESIDE IN ORLANDO AND PAL AROUND WITH THE MOUSE if you think Stephenson is going to Kansas.

At KU he becomes one of many. At Memphis he could “star” and continue the recent tradition of great guards coming out and going in the first round.

What do you think makes better press or will draw more attention?? Being one of many on a great team. Or being the catalyst that takes a team that was supposedly dead and makes a Final Four run?

I’ll go with the later. At this point I suppose in Lance’s world his choices are down to Maryland, St. John’s, & maybe a few others.

You are AN IDIOT IF YOU THINK KANSAS IS STILL ON HIS LIST.

Nothing wrong with Kansas, just something wrong with YOU!

  • WHAT AN IDIOT – “Lance is not going to Memphis they don’t have much of recruiting class left”.

How many players go to a school because the recruiting class is not all put together. Whith what Memphis has already Coleman, probably LW, you add LS and/or Bledsoe and its a top 20 class.

HOW STUPID DOES THIS ONE COME? “they will still be pretty good only because they play in a horrible conference.”

Memphis has been in the sweet sixteen for the last four years. Kansas didn’t do that did they? Ask Texas, Michigan State, Texas A&M, UCLA when we were thrashing them in the tourneys if it really mattered if Memphis played in a Non-BCS confrence.

THIS GUY HAS TO BE A REINCARNATED DAFFY DUCK –
“Also with this signing Lance is not going to go to Kentucky, they don’t have enough scholarships if Meeks and Patterson come back, plus they are the favorites to get Wall. If Lance wants the spotlight Kentucky is not an option they already have Cousins and if they get Wall those 2 are both rated higher thus more spotlight.”

What the difference in going to KY or KU? They are both loaded with great players. There is very little room for the kind of attention that “Stephenson” wants.

KUfanNmemphis <—- WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER CONSIDER ANYTHING THIS FAIRY WOULD HAVE TO SAY. I KNOW WHO IS HIS NOW. HE MUST BE THE SECOND COUSIN OF TINKER BELL!!!!!

  • hellothom…
I do live in Memphis, you don’t know me and I do not live under a rock, I am just giving an opinion. But there in reason to make this personal DICK. But lets talke about some of you points.

Just because LW dropped his list too 2 and that it includes Memphis is a little presumptious that he willl choose Memphis. They do not have the depth or talent to make a deep run in the Tournament. Again I am not saying Memphis won’t be good they just won’t be as good as they have ben in the past, and if you think so then you are just blinded you allegiance to you team. Which there is nothing wrong with that, but there is no need to make it personal.

The fact that Pastner is a first year coach who has no head coaching experience will make a difference no matter how he hires as assistants. Will he be a good one, maybe but they will struggle in his first year all first year coaches do. Also he is going to be installing a brand new offense and when that happens at any school there is a learning curve.

When it comes to Lance I did not realize that you had talked to him and he told you that he was no longer considering KU. Afterall that would be news to everyone since there are reports from people around him that say he is still considering Kansas even with the X coming. When it comes to exposure he will get more at Kansas, preseason number one, National Title favorites, and you can get noticed even if you are not the superstar (i.e. Marivn Williams, UNC).

I am not a Memphis hater, I want to live in a town that has a good bball team, but Memphis will take a step back and they will have a harder time get top recruits they have become accustomed too over the last couple years. Memphis will not make a Final Four Run unless you consider just making the tournament a run.

  • I’m not trying to be bias with this post, but this is how I feel about Lance’s recruitment based on what I have heard…

    1) Lance has stated that he is down to Kansas, St. John’s, and Maryland’s, so I’m not going to include any outside possibilities (i.e. Kentucky, Memphis, etc.)

So this is how I feel is the order of the schools with the best chance:

    1) Maryland
    2) St. John’s
    3) Kansas

Before anyone takes a stab at me, I am trying to make this with as much as I have heard of his recruitment from reliable and factual sources.
So let me state the following…

Kansas has to be at the bottom of this list (IMO). I have no doubt that he was going to go there before he delayed his decision. However, people keep stating that “now that Henry is there, he won’t get the stardom that he needs”. But you also have to consider that Collins and Aldrich are NBA-caliber players too, so it would give him a lot less opportunities to showcase himself. Second of all, as far as their scholarship availability, I think they’d have to take one from someone to free one up.

The reason I put St. John’s behind Maryland is because I have heard from an interview with Lance Stephenson that he was basically out-ruling playing there. A reporter asked him if he was ever going to play in MSG again, and he said something along the lines of “…if I get drafted by the Knicks…” (It’s somewhere on this site). Also, the fact that he didn’t want to announce his college decision at MSG also gave people the notion that he wasn’t choosing St. John’s.

Maryland made the top of my list, because I haven’t heard any factual or logical basis from ANY source eliminating Maryland from contention. Zag’s blog has stated that Maryland was out of the picture numerous times, but then Gary goes up to visit with Lance and his family, which seems to contradict that. Another thing is, Zagoria never stated why Maryland was out of the race, which made me question why he would bring it up to begin with.

I’m just speculating and could be completely wrong. In all fairness, St. John’s would be the best program for him to be the star of the team and the NY media and playing in MSG are very appealing aspects. Kansas is undoubtedly the pre-season #1 now, so if he wants a championship, there would be no better place to pick. As for Maryland, they have a great fanbase and the Comcast Center is one of the nicest and most exciting environments in college sports. He would also be considered the star, but might have to share some with Greivis. And Gary Williams is a great coach.

  • general greiv, i liked your post as a lot of the points you made are valid. However, I must disagree with the order for one reason. I think SJU is the favorite over Maryland (not considering any outside schools, if any). He made that statement (about playing for the knicks) when it was a lock that he was going ot Kansas. Lance was supposed to announce March 21st after the city championship at MSG. Once it got closer to that date, Kansas really became the heavy favorite. At that point, he did not want say “i will be back here at MSG” if SJU was not the favorite. Therefore, he made the point about the Knicks. Maryland is a good pick, but does have some issues. First, the under armour thing. that issue isnt resolved and the ncaa is looking to further investigate. That makes Lance and his farther nervous. Second, even though i think, and a lot of others think he is a 1 and done, if he isnt, the signing of a solid 2010 wing, as Maryland did, may have some impact. Thirdly, Lance will be a bigger star in New York. He will play at MSG, will score 25 plus points a game, be in every NY newspaper, will have his face all over the city, and will be the most talked about man in NY basketball while at St. John’s. In addition, SJU has a team returning of juniors, along with mason jr., 2 other solid recruits, and a weaker big east. This is ticket for Lance to take St. John’s on his back and potentially back in the tourny, even if a lower seed. If he does, all the publicity will be “Lance Stephenson led this storied program out of its ruins and back into respect.” That will have an impact on his draft status. Maryland made the tourny last year. They will be expected to do it again and as a higher seed along with a longer tourny run. He has more to gain from SJU and more publicity and/or endorsements to make. Therefore, if it is down to those three schools, and those only, I think SJU is the favorite. If he wants one and down power numbers and publicity, there is no better place for him then SJU. We shall see.
