SANTA ANA, Calif. — Oak Hill (VA) Academy defeated Chino Hills on Saturday, 96-91, to end Chino Hills’ 60-game winning streak.
Led by Iowa State-signee Lindell Wigginton’s 35 points, Oak Hill was able to overcome an early 14-point deficit.
“We hung in there,” said Oak Hill coach Steve Smith. “We had a shot to go ahead, then I turned around and we were down eight again. They’re tough and their play is different than anyone we’ve ever played,”
In a losing effort, UCLA-bound sophomore Lamelo Ball led all scorers with 36 points.
“He’s very good, strong, physical. I know he didn’t shoot the ball as well as he wanted to but he scares me to death, ” Smith said. “He’s a tough player and he’s confident.”
With the win, Oak Hill moves to 26-3 with their only losses coming against Nathan Hale (WA) High School, Findlay (NV) Prep, and Sierra Canyon (CA) High School. The loss gives Chino Hills their only loss of the season, moving their record to 25-1.
