Oak Hill Point Guard Matt Coleman Down to Duke and Texas

Matt Coleman, the 6-foot-1, 174-pound point guard from Oak Hill (VA) Academy, is down to Duke and Texas, he told Scout.com.

Stanford is out of the mix.

“I could see a commitment coming within a month from now, but right now I just don’t have that feeling of where I want to go in my heart,” Coleman told me recently.

His most recent visit was to Texas at the end of October.

“Texas was real nice, I say they laid out the red carpet,” he said. “Just being there with my family and [head coach] Shaka [Smart] spending some time, I really enjoyed myself.”

Coleman visited along with 7-footer Mohamed Bamba of the Westtown (PA) School and the PSA Cardinals. Bamba is considering Texas along with Duke, Kentucky, Harvard and a few others, but also won’t sign until the spring.

“Mo was there with me,” Coleman said. “He said he likes what Shaka does but I think he’s signing late as well. I don’t think we’re going to rush it, we’re just going to let it come to us.”

Coleman also hears regularly from Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel and Texas’ Smart.

“Coach Capel was here for our first game, I hear from him every day,” Coleman said. “Shaka was here [recently] for a game…. So it’s all consistent and they’re all preaching the same message.”

Coleman is one of several uncommitted elite Class of 2017 point guards. Trae Young and Trevon Duval are expected to sign in the spring. Young is considering Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Kentucky, while Duval is down to Duke, Kansas, Arizona, Seton Hall and Baylor.

“I don’t think my decision’s gonna be based on what they do,” Coleman said.
