The two Hall of Fame coaches involved in what is arguably college basketball’s greatest rivalry recently set aside some time to chat about the Duke-UNC dynamic.
Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski invited UNC’s Roy Williams on his radio program, which is set to air Thursday night at 6 p.m. on the SiriusXM College Sports Nation channel (Channel 84).
In one clip of their back-and-forth banter, Coach K had this to say to his in-state counterpart: “You and I have talked about this so many times, that we’re both very lucky to be the coach at North Carolina and Duke because that North Carolina-Duke rivalry or games have really been the epitome.”
To which Williams responded, “I say it the same way because I’m very flattered to be involved in it, and hope we do a good enough job to make it still be a really good rivalry because you’re pretty daggone good, and your program and everything.”
Krzyzewski, in his 37th season at Duke, has led the Blue Devils to five national championship titles and 12 Final Four appearances.
Williams, in his 14th season at UNC, has guided the Tar Heels to two national championship titles and four trips to the Final Four.
Duke and UNC, ranked No. 4 and 5 respectively in the USA Today Coaches Poll, will square off Thursday, February 9th in Durham and Saturday, March 4th in Chapel Hill.
