Duke Announces Signings of Trent Jr., Carter Jr., O’Connell…And They’re Not Done Yet

Duke officially announced the signing of its three-man class of Gary Trent Jr., Wendell Carter Jr. and Alex O’Connell.

The Class of 2017 group is ranked No. 4 by Scout.com behind Kentucky, UCLA and Arizona.

The 6-foot-5 Trent Jr. is a five-star recruit ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect and the No. 1 shooting guard in the class of 2017 by ESPN.

“He works at his game,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “He wants to be an outstanding player. He wants to do the process.”

The 6-10 Carter Jr. is  five-star recruit ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect and the No. 1 power forward in the class of 2017 by ESPN.

“Wendell is the total package for Duke University,” Krzyzewski said.

The 6-6 O’Connell is a four-star recruit ranked as the No. 88 overall prospect in 2017 by ESPN.com.

“He can really score the ball, he loves to play and he loves Duke,” Krzyzewski said.

Duke isn’t done yet, either.

The Blue Devils remain in the mix for Class of 2017 point guards Matt Coleman and Trevon Duval, as well as wing Kevin Knox and 7-footer Mohamed Bamba, all of whom will sign in the spring. For more on those guys, read this.
