Garrison Brooks to Mississippi State

Garrison Brooks, the 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward from Auburn (AL) High School, announced his commitment to Mississippi State on Wednesday.

His father, George Brooks, is an assistant under head coach Ben Howland.

“It was really tough because last night I had thought about, I don’t know, just waiting and pushing it back, but I came to it in my mind that this is what I really want to do,” Brooks told AL.com. “I want to do it.”

The No. 132 recruit nationally according to 247Sports.com, Brooks chose Mississippi State over UNC, Auburn, Georgia and LSU.

Brooks averaged 16.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game as a junior, according to AL.com. He averaged 14.6 points and 10.2 rebounds as a sophomore.

“It was actually really close,” Brooks said. “It’s closer than what people really think, but I felt this was the situation, so I went and made that decision.”

UNC remains in the mix for Findlay Prep (NV) forward P.J. Washington, who will announce on Thursday between Kentucky, North Carolina and UNLV.
