Done With Visits, Gary Trent Say It’s ‘Possible’ He Could Decide Early

Gary Trent Jr. is done with his official visits and says it’s “possible” he could commit during the early signing period beginning next week.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Prolific (CA) Prep has taken officials to Duke, Michigan State, and UCLA.

“We’ve got the early period coming up and it’s possible that I could decide by then, but I’m not sure,” he wrote in his USA Today blog. “We’ll have to see.”

Trent has been linked to 5-star big man Wendell Carter for a package deal. The only school both players have in common is Duke.

“I think both of us loved the visit!” he wrote.

Trent broke down all three visits in his blog:

UCLA:

“The campus was beautiful, it’s like five minutes away from Bel Air and the weather was just great. I went to the UCLA-Stanford football game and that was definitely live.

“The people that I spent the majority of my weekend with were T.J. Leaf and Lonzo Ball. They showed me some great things and showed me all the campus had to offer.

“I was there before the season started so I got to run some pickup with them. That was fun!

“I really like what Coach Alford has going on over there and I know I’d be successful there.

“I think the best part of the weekend was proving to Lonzo Ball that I was the NBA 2K GOAT! I don’t wanna put him out there too much because I got to know him and we’re cool so I’ll just say I beat him multiple times by 20-plus.”

Duke:

“I went with one of my best friends Wendell Carter, who’s like a brother to me. Of course everyone knows that we want to play together so we scheduled the visit so we could see it together.

“We went to Countdown to Craziness and that was just crazy! You hear about the Cameron Crazies, but it definitely surpassed what I thought. Those guys really are in awe of their basketball team. I loved it.

“I went and sat with them and everything.

“I saw their practices and sat in on actual classes and everything like that.

“It’s a beautiful campus.

“Jayson Tatum was our host and he did a great job showing us what the school had to offer, and Coach K talked to me about what he could offer me and how I could fit in there and how playing at Duke could have a great impact on my life.

I think both of us loved the visit!”

Michigan State:

“I love what Coach Izzo has going on over there. The energy at practice was the most intense that I’ve seen at any university. The guys really love each other and they really want to make each other better. That’s all you can ask for.

“I loved the campus and everything the school had to offer. It was a great visit.”
