Nate Watson, a 6-foot-9 Class of 2017 power forward from Bishop O’Connell (VA), committed to Providence during his official visit on Saturday.
He also considered Maryland, N.C. State and Miami, but will skip visits to Maryland and Miami.
“Coach [Ed] Cooley and his staff did a great job recruiting him and Nate feels very comfortable with Cooley and his plan for Nate,” Fred Howze, Watson’s AAU coach, told SNY.tv.
Watson joins 6-10 big man Dajour Dickens of the Boo Williams AAU program and Bethel (VA) High School to give Providence a tall and talented frontcourt going forward in the Big East.
“[Watson] is the best big man in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area,” Dwayne Wise, the GM of the Team Melo Basketball AAU program, told SNY.tv. “He has gone from showing flashes to now drawing double-teams.
“Coach Fred Howze, Nate’s primary AAU coach, did a great job with Nate’s off-the-court development. Nate grew from 6-4 to 6-9 in less than two years and has dominated this year in the WCAC under coach Joe Wootten.”
