Rodriguez benched, Seton Hall beats DePaul

With sophomore Desi Rodriguez benched during the game for comments he made to head coach Kevin Willard, Seton Hall beat DePaul 78-74 on Saturday in Newark.

Rodriguez, who averages 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Pirates, played just 12 minutes, scoring seven points. He did not play in the second half after he said “some things my players don’t say,” Willard said, according to the New York Post.

“I don’t put up with attitudes,” Willard said.

After the game, Willard said he wasn’t sure about Rodriguez’s status for Wednesday’s game against Villanova.

Without Rodriguez, Isaiah Whitehead had 18 points and nine assists, Angel Delgado went for 12 points and 12 rebounds for his seventh straight double-double and Khadeen Carrington had 14 points for the Pirates (12-2, 2-0 Big East).

Billy Garrett Jr. led the Blue Demons (6-8, 0-2) with 20 points and eight assists. Myke Henry had 15 points and nine rebounds. Rashuan Stimage added 15 points.
