Bruce Brown to Miami

CGauL6iUcAAgVJtVermont Academy guard Bruce Brown is headed to warmer weather.

The 6-foot-4 Brown announced for Miami over Indiana on Wednesday on ESPN. Ranked the No. 6 shooting guard in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports.com, he previously cut Xavier, UMass and Purdue from his list.

“I will be attending the University of Miami,” Brown told ESPN’s Adam Finkelstein.

Brown said Miami had texted him every day since his sophomore season. He figures to get significant playing time beginning next season when guards Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez depart.

“They run pick-and-rolls, I love pick-and-rolls,” Brown said. “They pressure the ball and also Angel and Sheldon are leaving.”

This summer, Brown averaged 16.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 steals on the Nike EYBL circuit.

“Bruce Brown’s best asset is his leadership,” Vermont Academy coach Alex Popp told SNY.tv. “He competes hard in every drill and he prepares to win. He’s a Top 30 player in the country who treats practices like games. We think that’s special at our level.”

He joins 6-10 Oak Hill Academy big man Rodney Miller in Miami’s 2016 recruiting class.

Dewan Huell, a 6-10 power forward from Miami (FL) Norland, is also expected to pick Miami over South Carolina later Wednesday, the last day of the early signing period.
