Schnider Herard to Mississippi State

Schnider Herard, a 6-foot-10 center from Plano (TX) Prestonwood Christian, has committed to Mississippi State.

The No. 5-ranked center in the Class of 2016 according to 247Sports.com, Herard chose the Bulldogs over Kansas, Purdue and Texas Tech.

“Coach [Ben] Howland is a great coach that knows what it takes to get to the Final Four, and I have the best opportunity to play as a freshmen,” Herard told ESPN.

“The most important thing in his decision is going to be the ability to play right away,” Derrick Shelby, Herard’s guardian, previously told goldandblack.com. “That’s No. 1. So many kids go to these schools and sit there for a year or two. He’d like to be able to play right away. There’s no question about that. That’s the No. 1 criteria.”

Herard is the fourth commit in the class for the Bulldogs, joining Eli Wright, Lamar Peters and Tyson Carter, which now ranks the Mississippi State class No. 5 in the nation by Scout.
