Villanova, Georgetown Top Big East Preseason Poll; Kris Dunn, Jalen Brunson Garner Preseason Honors

As expected, Villanova and Georgetown topped the Big East Preseason Coaches’ poll, followed by Butler, Xavier and Providence.

Seton Hall was picked seventh and St. John’s, under fist-year coach Chris Mullin, was picked dead last.

Providence guard Kris Dunn, a 6-foot-4 junior projected as the No. 7 pick in the NBA Draft, was named the Preseason Player of the Year, while Villanova freshman guard Jalen Brunson, who led the USA U19 to a gold medal over the summer, was named Big East Rookie of the Year.

The All-Big East First Team includes the Butler duo of Kellen Dunham and Roosevelt Jones, Georgetown’s D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Xavier’s Jalen Reynolds and Villanova’s Ryan Arcidiacono, the reigning Big East Player of the Year.
