St. Benedict’s Forward Arnaldo Toro Considering 3 Schools

ToroArnaldo Toro, a 6-foot-9 2016 power forward from St. Benedict’s Prep, is considering three schools and is honing in on a decision.

The native of Puerto Rico is down to George Washington, St. Joe’s and Kansas State. He has visited GW and will visit St. Joe’s the weekend of Oct. 16 and Kansas State Oct. 29. St. Joe’s coach Phil Martelli is expected to watch him during a scrimmage on Wednesday.

“I already did my visit to GW,” he said. “I like the GW staff and it’s a great environment to be in. And a great academic school.”

Toro still plans to trip to the other two.

“I’m looking forward to see what K-State and St. Joe’s have,” Toro said. “I know all three of them have a great basketball program. I’m looking for a place that I can play and be successful.”

In 20 games this spring and summer with the Albany City Rocks on the Nike EYBL circuit, he averaged 6.6 points and 5.7 rebounds.

“He’s the ultimate teammate,” City Rocks director Jim Hart said. “Any coach is going to love him. He’s a warrior on the boards, brings his lunch pail every day. His upside is great because he has a high basketball IQ and such a natural nose for the ball.

“Playing for [St. Benedict’s coach] Mark Taylor you know he has been coached and pushed. He’s an elite offensive rebounder who runs the floor tirelessly and excels at transition putbacks. Good footwork in the post and can knock down jumpers out to the 3-point line. Everyone in the City Rock organization loved him.”
