After Postponing Rutgers Visit, Bashir Ahmed Planning Three Trips

mbb033115After postponing his official visit to Rutgers this weekend, junior college star Bashir Ahmed has three more official visits set and is uncertain if he will get to Rutgers.

“With Rutgers, they’re still recruiting me right now but I just want to wait,” Ahmed told SNY.tv Sunday by phone. “I like Rutgers and everything but I had a lot of schoolwork this week. I just wanted to wait until later on….I’m not visiting Rutgers right now.”

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound combo guard from The Bronx will trip to  Cincinnati (Sept. 18) and St. John’s (Sept. 26) and is working on a date for Louisville.

“Louisville wanted me to come out this week but I wasn’t able to come out this week,” he said. “They’re trying to set up a visit in between Cincinnati and St. John’s or after the St. John’s visit.”

He said “all three of those schools are recruiting me hard right now. They recruiting me very hard. They’re showing a lot of effort, talking to my brothers.”

Ahmed took unofficials to both Rutgers and St. John’s back in May.

A onetime Iona commit who will be eligible in 2016, Ahmed was named a NJCAA All-American last season at Hutchinson.

Ahmed finished with 585 points, the sixth-most points scored by a true Blue Dragon freshman in team history. His 16.3 point scoring average tied for ninth best by a Hutchinson freshman.

“I’m going to bring versatility, I’m going to bring toughness,” he said. “I’m going to defend on the court and I’m going to score from the perimeter on the floor.

“Most important I have heart. I’m going to bring that toughness to the team. A team always needs toughness.”
