Recruiting Roundup: Memphis Adds Guard Ar’mond Davis; Rice, NJIT Add Pledges

headshot_1_armonddavismugMemphis picked up a commitment on Saturday from Ar’Mond Davis, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard who averaged 10.9 points and 3.9 rebounds last season at the College of Southern Idaho.

Davis committed on his visit even though he had a visit slated for Texas A&M next week, Alabama after that and LSU Oct. 3.

CSI coach Jared Phay said Memphis is getting a player who can help them going forward.

“Armond is a very talented scorer, he can really shoot it but has the ability to finish around the rim,” Phay told SNY.tv. “He has a very high upside!”

Davis is Memphis first commit in 2016.

RICE ADDS POINT GUARD

Rice got a pledge from Ako Adams, a 6-2 point guard from Bishop O’Connell in Washington, D.C.

Old Dominion, Louisiana Tech and DePaul were also involved.

“He can play any guard spot,” one coach involved in his recruitment said. “He’s a very good shooter and is exceptional at changing speeds and direction with the ball.”

NJIT LANDS WING

NJIT landed a commitment from Ron Alston, a 6-6 small forward from the Miller School in Charlottesville, Va.

UMBC and Fairfield were also involved.

“He can really pass and has a great feel for the game,” one coach involved in his recruitment said. “He’s a versatile defender with his length.”
