Javin DeLaurier Looking to Cut List Soon

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Javin DeLaurier is looking to cut his list in late July or early August.

“I’m open right now,” the 6-foot-9 power forward from Charlottesville (Va.) St. Anne’s-Belfield and Team Loaded told SNY.tv this week at the adidas Uprising All-American Camp. “I think after the last live period I’m going to sit down with my family and make some decisions.

“Maybe [cut to] five [schools], but absolutely a more manageable number.”

DeLaurier said Texas, Vanderbilt, Princeton and Virginia Tech are “all showing a lot of love and communicating with me.”

Duke, Vanderbilt, Texas and Notre Dame were among the schools watching him at the adidas camp.

He recently visited North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Louisville unofficially.

“Had a great experience on those trips,” he said.

On Louisville: “Tradition, mostly. Just a history of winning and it provided a new perspective for me in terms of college basketball that I wasn’t familiar with. They bring guys in and make them better and prepare them for the highest level, which is the ultimate goal.”

On North Carolina: “Their history, [Michael] Jordan, [James] Worthy went there, it was just crazy. They told me in 2016 they have a need for size who can do different things on the court.”

On Vanderbilt: “High academic school, SEC school. Beautiful school, beautiful.”

On Virginia Tech: “Beautiful in-state school Not basketball tradition so much, but they’re building a tradition.”

On what he brings to college: “Right now coaches are talking about using me as a stretch four early and then as my skill development catches up with my athleticism, using me as a three.”
