There is a “legitimate chance” Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid could miss the entire 2015-16 NBA season after suffering a setback in the recovery from surgery on the stress fracture on his right foot, according to a report from Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
A source also told SNY.tv that Embiid could miss as many as four months.
“The Jones fracture is not improving,” a second source said.
Embiid was the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Kansas.
“Our priority remains providing Joel with every opportunity to ensure he has a long and successful NBA career,” Sixers GM Sam Hinkie said Saturday, per the Inquirer. “. . . We will continue to consult with the experienced team of doctors who have been an integral part of his evaluation, while also engaging in dialogue with a broader set of experts and specialists.”
The Inquirer reported that Embiid’s status won’t impact the Sixers’ draft pick at No. 3 and that they will still take the best player available.
DraftExpress.com projects the Sixers taking Latvian 7-footer Kristaps Porzingis at No. 3.
