Mudiay Set to Work Out for Sixers on Tuesday

CHawLPoUsAAD0eTEmmanuel Mudiay will meet with the Philadelphia 76ers brass on Monday and then work out for the team on Tuesday, as first reported by SNY.tv.

Mudiay has already worked out for the Lakers and Knicks, who pick at No. 2 and 4, respectively.

DraftExpress.com currently has the Sixers selecting Latvian 7-footer Kristaps Porzingis at No. 3, with the 6-5 Mudiay falling to to the Sacramento Kings at No. 6.

“Emmanuel Mudiay is going to make everyone on his team better,” Larry Brown, the former Knicks and Sixers and current SMU coach, told The 4 Quarters Podcast.

Mudiay will visit the Sixers following last week’s development in which former Ohio State guard D’Angelo Russell did not work out for the team on Friday amid rumblings that he was either sick or might have been given a guarantee by the Lakers at No. 2.

If Karl-Anthony Towns goes No. 1 to Minnesota and Russell goes No. 2 to the Lakers, the Sixers would then potentially have to strongly consider taking Duke big man Jahlil Okafor even though they already have a stockpile of big men in Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid, who recently suffered a setback while recovering from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot.

For his part, Brown says Mudiay is more of a natural floor general than Russell.

“Emmanuel is a point guard, I don’t think D’Angelo Russell is a point guard,” he said. “But I think D’Angelo Russell is a great player. He can pass the hell out of the ball, he can shoot it with range. I don’t think he’ll ever be the defender that Emmanuel is and I don’t think he’ll ever run a team the way Emmanuel does but he also doesn’t need to do that the way he plays.”
