Sam Cunliffe to Arizona State

Sam Cunliffe, a 6-foot-7 2016 shooting guard from Seattle (WA) Rainer Beach, committed to Arizona State and coach Bobby Hurley on Wednesday.

He said he chose the Sun Devils over Cal, but also held offers from Washington, Oregon and Oregon State.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn from a great coach,” Cunliffe told SNY.tv by text. “It’s a place where I could see myself living.”

Cunliffe is Hurley’s first 2016 commit as he builds his new program since coming over from Buffalo.

“I can break my man down and get into the paint whenever,” he said. “I feel like I can play  well off the ball and play well with the ball. I pride myself on my passing ability. I also rebound and play defense. I try to be as versatile as possible.”

Arizona State also recently added former N.C. State and Houston commit Torian Graham, who will sit one year to play one, and remain in the mix for 7-footer Thon Maker, who is looking at entering school in December and is considering Arizona State and Indiana, among others.

The news was first reported by Scout.com.
