Unique McLean to UMass

4_2988972Unique McLean, an incredibly athletic 6-foot-1 shooting guard from the MacDuffie (MA) School and the PSA Cardinals AAU program, has committed to UMass, his AAU coach confirmed to SNY.tv.

McLean also held offers from Dayton, Iona, Rutgers, Manhattan, Fordham, St. Peter’s and others. He won the Slam Dunk Contest at the Mary Kline Classic in 2014.

“[My athleticism] is really what makes my game,” McLean told 247Sports then. “My jumping ability and speed is huge for me. I’m not always the tallest guy out on the floor, but I’m usually one of the fastest and most athletic guys out there. When I’m out there using my quickness and jumping ability, usually good things happen.”

Now he’s taking his skill set to UMass.

“Unique is one of the best athletes in the country and has the ability to play above the rim with the best of them,” PSA Cardinals director Terrance “Munch” Williams told SNY.tv. “He has worked on his jump shot and ball-handling over the years and gotten those skills to a solid level. I believe he will be a lockdown defender at the college level.”

He added: “As the director of the [PSA Cardinals], it’s always a blessing to witness a young man capture his goals. With Unique being a part of this program since the sixth grade, I’ve watched him grow both on and off the court. With that being said, we at the PSA Cardinals family are extremely proud of him and will be by his side the rest of the way. UMass is getting a good basketball player and a great person.”

Adam Finkelstein of ESPN first reported the news.
