Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek declined a meeting with Iowa State officials about its head coaching vacancy through his agent, according to a report from CycloneFanatic.com, which sited a source close to the situation.
Hornacek, 52, has one year left on his contract with Phoenix and won’t be replacing Fred Hoiberg in Ames after Hoiberg took the Chicago Bulls job. Hornacek played at Iowa State and his jersey is retired there.
Meantime, Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com reports that Stephen F. Austin’s Brad Underwood, Valpo’s Bryce Drew, Murray State’s Steve Prohm and Iowa State assistant T.J. Otzelberger “remain under consideration.” Parrish also lists Oregon coach Dana Altman as a possibility.
Former Suns coach Lindsey Hunter is also a candidate, according to SI.com.
