Cheick Diallo on Brink of Making College Announcement

DialloCheick Diallo is on the brink of making his college announcement.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Our Savior New American is expected to announce Tuesday or Wednesday, a source told SNY.tv. It remains unclear if Diallo will simply Tweet out or his decision or hold a press conference.

With Brandon Ingram set to announce Monday, Diallo likely did not want to overlap with his decision.

Diallo maintains his original list of five schools — Kentucky, Kansas, St. John’s, Pitt and Iowa State — the source confirmed.

St. John’s coach Chris Mullin and Kentucky coach John Calipari were the last two coaches to meet with Diallo, and Kansas coach Bill Self has also been in recently.

Diallo recently won the MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic following him taking MVP honors at the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Wherever he lands, Jordan Classic East and Chicago St. Rita’s coach Gary DeCesare, a guest recently on SNY’s The 4 Quarters Podcast, says that school is getting a stud.

“Man, he’s got a high motor man, he’s like the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps going and going and going and going,” said DeCesare, who watched Diallo go for 26 points and 11 rebounds Friday in a 118-116 lost to the West, which was led by Allonzo Trier’s 28 points.

“He’s a great kid, he just plays. I tell you what, he’d be an unbelievable get for St. John’s or whoever tries to get him. I love that kid, man. He just plays, goes out and does whatever you need him to do, man. When you got a 6-9 guy who’s the first guy down the court in transition, wow, that’s scary.”
