Recruiting Roundup: Tyus Battle, Jayson Tatum, Deshawn Freeman

Tyus Battle

Tyus Battle will have several visitors on Thursday.

As previously reported by SNY.tv, Louisville coach Rick Pitino will be in to see Gill St. Bernard’s plays Montgomery.

Villanova assistant Ashley Howard and Notre Dame assistant Martin Ingelsby will also attend, as first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.

Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey is also expected to see the 6-foot-6 Battle later this month, sources said, as the Irish make a push for Battle to replace senior guard Jerian Grant.

The 6-foot-6, five-star combo guard is also looking to cut his list from 11 at some point in the future.

Battle has cut his list to 11 schools, but his father said the time off has allowed them to watch a lot of college basketball and “hone in” on several schools.

Several schools remain strong in the mix.

“We still got Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State is strong, Michigan is strong,” Gary Battle told SNY.tv. “We’ve been in constant contact with those schools.”

DUKE VISITS TATUM

Duke assistant Jon Scheyer watched 2016 guard Jayson Tatum Thursday night in advance of Tatum’s Feb. 28 visit to the campus.

The 6-8 Tatum went for 25 points and 7 rebounds in a 72-59 win over St. Louis Christian.

“He just said I played well and he’s excited for me to visit,” Tatum told SNY.tv.

The Scheyer visit was previously reported by Scout.

TULSA, RUTGERS VISIT DESHAWN FREEMAN

Tulsa and Rutgers this week are seeing Deshawn Freeman, a 6-8 wing from Hutchinson (KS) College, who is averaging 19.4 points and 9.4 rebounds  for a team that is 20-5, 7-4 in the Jayhawk West.

“One reason is he takes good shots. He gets in position where he can score,” Hutchinson coach Steve Eck told HutchNews.com.

“He jumps quick, and he has long arms,” Eck said. “He has a knack of knowing where the ball will go, too.”
