NEW YORK – Whether it’s at the U.S. Open or Madison Square Garden, Serena Williams knows how to win in New York.
Playing her first event in the Garden, Serena downed Big Sister Venus 6-4, 6-3 to win the inaugural BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup.
“It did remind me a little bit of a night match at the U.S. Open,” Serena, the No. 1 player in the world and winner of the last two Grand Slam events, told a crowd that included former President Bill Clinton. “A little intense.”
