Joey De La Rosa Could Get Redshirt Year Back at St. John’s

Joey De La Rosa made his season debut for No. 20 St. John’s in Friday night’s 53-47 win over St. Mary’s.

The 6-foot-11 senior played 12 minutes and went scoreless but did notch one rebound and two blocks.

De La Rosa missed the first semester per NCAA rules after transferring from FIU.

He will have eligibility beyond this season, sources told SNY.tv. De La Rosa played the 2011-12 and 2012-13 and just 7 games in November 2013 at FIU.

Technically, he could apply for a redshirt year to get all of last year back in 2015-16. St. John’s has no official comment on the situation.

De La Rosa gives St. John’s some added size and shot-blocking down low to support junior Chris Obekpa.

There is no update on freshman Adonis De La Rosa, who is sitting out after being deemed a non-qualifier.
