2016 Point Guard Ty Graves Transfers to Montverde Academy

Josh Level Classic 2014-72By JACK LeGWIN

MONTVERDE, Fla. — Ty Graves, one of the top point guards in the class of 2016, has transferred to Montverde Academy.

Montverde’s next game is Friday, but it remains unclear when Graves will make his debut, sources told SNY.tv.

One of the best pure shooters in the nation regardless of class, Graves will bring a new dynamic for this new edition of Montverde, the ability to take attention off of their big men, Ben Simmons (LSU), Doral Moore (Wake Forest), Jean Marc Christ Koumadje (FSU) and Noah Dickerson (Florida), who team up to create one of the best front courts in the nation.

“Ben and the big guys draw a lot of double teams, so they can kick out to me and I can knock it down from outside,” Graves told SNY.tv. “It’s really a blessing.”

Graves, who has been compared to Stephen Curry, previously told SNY.tv that Curry is someone he emulates.

“I see myself modeling my game after Stephen, ” Graves said. “The way he shoots, I try to watch videos of him, and copy what he does a bit.”

Graves has offers from Kansas State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, College of Charleston, Boston College, Clemson, Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington, Georgia Southern and Old Dominion.

Graves, who also plays alongside Kwe Parker and Brandon Childress during the summer for the Karolina Diamonds, is coached by his father, Kevin.

“Ty is the guy that does the dirty work for us,” Kevin Graves said. “I can put him on any guard on the defensive side, and on the offensive side he can knock down threes and make plays in the open court.”
