Kai Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 2015 forward from Spring Valley (N.Y.), gave a verbal commitment to Iona on Sunday and will arrive on campus in 2016 after spending a postgrad year.
“The best thing about Kai are his feet and his hands,” House of Sports coach Andy Borman told SNY.tv. “He moves like a ‘big’ guard and really fits the mold of a point forward.
“He’s an excellent finisher around the rim and can shoot the ball consistently out to 17 feet. He is a tremendous rebounder of the basketball on the offensive and defensive end.”
“Kai’s best skillset is his vision and passing ability. You don’t see guys his size that can pass the ball and find the open man the way that he does. He is one of those guys that could very easily be a high-major tight end in the mold of Vernon Davis and Antonio Gates (both former basketball players that pursued football after college). He is that athletic and has hands that are that special.”
