Defending U.S. Open champion Rafael Nadal won’t decide until next week whether or not to compete in the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 25.
His public-relations manager Benito Perez-Barbadillo announced Friday on Twitter: “Decision on US Open participation for @RafaelNadal postponed till early next week. No decision today or tomorrow.”
Nadal, the 14-time Grand Slam champion, injured his right wrist prior while practicing for the Rogers Cup in Toronto last week and was also unable to play this week in Cincinnati. He has had a splint on his hand since suffering the injury July 30.
A year ago, Nadal won Toronto, Cincinnati and the U.S. Open.
Juan Martin del Potro, who beat Nadal and Roger Federer to win the 2009 U.S. Open, will also miss the tournament after undergoing wrist surgery March 24.
