Jermaine Lawrence, a Cincinnati transfer, has received a waiver to play immediately and will be eligible for the Manhattan Jaspers this year, Head Coach Steve Masiello said.
“We are very excited about the addition of Jermaine to this year’s team,” Masiello told SNY.tv.
“He is an extremely long, athletic and versatile wing at 6-9. He is a very humble young man who continues to work on his craft and will only get better as time goes on. He will fit into our brand and style not only on the court but off as well.”
Lawrence averaged 2.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in his freshman season in 26 games for the Bearcats.
“Going down a level doesn’t bother me,” Lawrence told the New York Post in May of the transfer triggered by his father’s battle with cancer. “If I’m as a good a player as I am and people think I am, someone will find me. I’m really excited about the future, being back in New York.”
Coming out of high school, Lawrence was ranked No. 24 in the class of 2013 by 247 Sports.
If healthy and motivated, Lawrence could be a huge addition for Manhattan in the MAAC.
