Mitchell Adds Louisville, Memphis Offers

PHILADELPHIA –– By midday Thursday, Donovan Mitchell was already having a good day.

The 6-foot-3 point guard from Brewster (N.H.) Academy picked up offers from Louisville and Memphis after going for 17 points in a win at the Reebok Classic Breakout.

“[Coach Rick Pitino] texted me and said that he enjoyed watching me play and that I had an offer from Louisville,” Mitchell told SNY.tv.

“I felt real excited. Finally, everything’s coming full circle. I’m just playing my game, doing well and it’s all coming to light now.”

Mitchell said he “definitely” plans on visiting Louisville.

The Cardinals are also on the final list for Roselle (N.J.) Catholic point guard Isaiah Briscoe, who is at the LeBron James Skills Academy this week.

Mitchell also added an offer from Memphis coach Josh Pastner.

“I’m thinking about [visiting],” Mitchell said.

Memphis is here primarily focused on 2015 bigs in Elijah Thomas, Steve Enoch, Skal Labissiere and 2016 Thon Maker, who may reclass.

Mitchell said St. John’s, Providence, Indiana, Florida State, Cincinnati, UNLV and Creighton are also recruiting him hard.

He said he plans to cut his list “probably around August…It’s getting tougher and tougher.”

Wherever he goes, Mitchell said he plans to bring “hustle, just energy, just being able to guard perimeter guys.”

“Today I defended really well against Dwayne Bacon, so defense is something I’ve improved on a lot,” he said. “And that’s a credit to Coach [Jason] Smith at Brwester. And then being able to get in the lane, create shots, being able to find my shot, get to the basket, finish at the rim, everything like that.”
