Kentucky’s James Young Was in Minor Car Accident a Couple Weeks Ago

James Young was in a minor car accident a “couple weeks ago,” a source confirmed to SNY.tv.

Chad Ford of ESPN first Tweeted Thursday morning that the 6-foot-7 Kentucky freshman “was in a minor car accident” that caused him to “miss [his] last 5 workouts. He’s OK. But may explain his recent draft slide.”

After peaking as a projected lottery pick, DraftExpress.com has the Michigan native going No. 24 to the Charlotte Bobcats in tonight’s NBA Draft but not because of the car accident.

“Although Young is talented enough to get picked much higher than this, concerns around his off-court habits and NBA readiness have tempered some of the enthusiasm around his draft stock as other prospects have risen for different reasons,” Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com wrote.

Young said Wednesday in New York that the Lakers, Suns, Bulls and Bobcats were the teams showing the most interest in him.

“I thought I was definitely going to be in the top 10,” Young told the Louisville Courier-Journal Wednesday. “… But whatever team I go to, whatever team doesn’t pick me, I’ll see them in the regular season and just go at them.”

Young is repped by Jay-Z.
