West Virginia Signs Billydee Williams, Not Lando Calrissian

West Virginia on Monday signed a guard named Billydee Williams.

He is not to be confused with Billy Dee Williams, the actor who played Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars series and may appear in either the upcoming Star Wars Rebels or Star Wars Episode VII, which will also include Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill and comes out in December 2015.

Billydee Williams is a 6-foot-6, 215-pound guard/forward from Orlando, Fla. who most recently attended South Plains Community College in Texas. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at WVU.

“We are excited to get a player of this caliber this late in the recruiting process,” said head coach Bob Huggins. “Billydee is another guy who increases our size and athleticism on the perimeter as well as being able to stretch people out with his 3-point shooting. He also will be a valuable resource as we try to rebound the basketball more efficiently.”

This past season at South Plains, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Williams spent his freshman campaign at Iowa Western Community College, where he averaged 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game per game.

As a senior in high school, Williams attended Brandon Faith Baptist Christian School. At Winter Park High as a junior, Williams helped lead the Wildcats to the Class 6A state championship title.

Williams joins Jevon Carter (Maywood, Ill./Proviso East HS), Daxter Miles (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep [Mass.]/Dunbar HS), Jaysean Paige (Jamestown, N.Y./Moberly Area Community College [Kan.]) and Tarik Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y./Independence Community College [Ky.]) in the 2014-15 recruiting class.
