Hofstra head coach Joe Mihalich on Tuesday landed a pledge from 6-foot-8 forward Rokas Gustys of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy.
“Great coaching staff and New York was my dream city,” Gustys told SNY.tv.
He also considered Tulane, and before that UAB and Rhode Island recruited him.
“He can play the four or the five, either position,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith told SNY.tv. “Strong rebounder. Scores with both hands. He’s also an exceptional passer for a big guy.”
Gustys averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds this season in about 20 minutes per game at Oak Hill. He went for 12 points and 12 rebounds when Oak Hill beat Northside Christian in the quarterfinals of the Dick’s High School National Tournament earlier this month. Oak Hill ultimately lost in the final to Montverde (FL) Academy.
He previously said he plans to bring: “1. Toughness for sure; 2. I am a winner. Every program I played won; 3. Great teammate on the court.”
