Kentucky Checks in On Derrick Jones, UConn Visit Pushed Back

Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne checked in on Derrick Jones, the 6-foot-7, 190-pound junior wing from Archbishop Carroll (Pa.), his father told SNY.tv.

“He just pretty much filled me in on what’s going on in their program,” Derrick Jones Sr. said. “Just trying to explain more about the program and not the hype of  Kentucky. Everyone is picking Kentucky as a one-and-done school and everything and he was just breaking down how serious things are there and how they expect   excellence from all their players. Just giving me the whole spiel about the whole thing.

“It seems like a great place, I can’t wait to visit.”

Jones holds a Kentucky offer, but his father said no visit date has been set for this summer. His father previously said they hope to visit Kentucky, Syracuse, Indiana and Iowa State this summer. Their visit to UConn — originally slated for this weekend — was pushed back to May 12 after Derrick competed this weekend at the Adidas Nations event in Miami.

“We’re not going to get out there until next Monday,” Derrick Sr. said.

As for Kentucky, Jones Sr. said Payne told him they would continue to follow Derrick this summer.

“Overall, they just said like the kid’s game overall, they like his attitude,” his father said. “They just said they loved his game overall and they’re very interested in starting to recruit him and getting involved with him.”
