Jackson Davis Cuts to 3, Will Announce Friday (UPDATED)

jackson-davisJackson Davis has cut his list to three schools and will announce at 3:45 p.m. on Friday at his high school, his mother, Ginger Davis, confirmed to SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-8 Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette power forward is down to Alabama, Butler and Rice.

Arizona State, Columbia, Creighton, Florida and Vanderbilt are out.

Here’s his father, Johnathan Davis, on the three finalists:

“Alabama – Coach [Anthony] Grant is an outstanding person with a vision that would allow Jackson to grow as a basketball player. The opportunity to play in the SEC would be a huge honor. Coach [John] Brannen brings familiarity in a place far from home. He is from Kentucky and is kindred spirit.”

“Butler – Coach [Brandon] Miller and Coach [Chris] Holtmann are both convinced that Jackson has a high ceiling and could be a factor for them for four years. The Butlers fans have gone above and beyond to express their hopefulness that he would come to Indianapolis.”

“Rice – Coach [Mike] Rhoades’ decision to keep Adam Gierlach on staff and to bring in Carlin Hartman, both of whom Jackson had existing relationships with, will make it hard to say no to them. Jackson was impressed by the direction Coach Rhoades is taking the program and feels that Rice will be an impact team sooner rather than later.”

As for the Florida home visit Wednesday, it has been cancelled.

“We had an open dialogue with Coach [Billy] Donovan and Coach [John] Pelphrey earlier [Wednesday] and they are aware of Jackson’s decision and the direction we are going. They were considerate and wished us nothing but the best. We want to say thank you again to the Florida staff on their interest and understanding.

“Jackson plans to have a final decision by the end of the week.”
