Fresh off an official visit to Alabama this past weekend, 2014 Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette forward Jackson Davis was set to have home visits this week with Rice, Butler and Florida.
Davis has visited Butler, Rice, Columbia and Alabama — officially or unofficially — and he has two official visits remaining, but is undecided on where to take them.
“We have two to go between Arizona State, Creighton and Florida” Johnathan Davis, Jackson’s father, told SNY.tv Monday.
“We have two more visits to take and at that point we’re going to have to sit down and make a final decision.”
As for the Alabama visit, Johnathan said, “We were surprised at how much the city had grown and how progressive people there were. And they also seemed to be interested in basketball, believe it or not, we were surprised by that. We already had a good feeling about the coaching staff and we have a relationship with those guys. But to be on campus, the fans and the folks down there, they’re making the decision very hard.”
Johnathan said Alabama coach Anthony Grant will also come back in on Tuesday to meet with Jackson at his school.
The family also spoke with new Rice coach Mike Rhoades Sunday night and he was due in Monday for a home visit. Johnathan said they already have a relationship with new Rice and former Columbia assistant Carlin Hartman and video coordinator Adam Gierlach.
“We’ve got two guys that we know well, that know us well, we had a good talk with [Rhoades] last night and he wants to come in and he’s going to be here tonight [Monday],” Johnathan said.
Butler head coach Brandon Miller comes in Tuesday “to have another little visit with us.”
So Tuesday will involve meetings with Butler and Alabama.
Florida head coach Billy Donovan is due in Wednesday.
“They’re coming an awful long way at a very late point in this process, so I’d be surprised if they did not offer or at least had us come down there for a visit,” Johnathan said.
Seton Hall associate head coach Shaheen Holloway also reached out.
“Seton Hall called [Sunday] night,” Johnathan said. “We talked to him for about 20 minutes and he laid out his vision for us but I haven’t had a chance to talk to my son about it yet.”
