Kentucky pledge Karl-Anthony Towns has won the New Jersey Non-Public A state title and is on to the Tournament of Champions.
The 7-foot Towns went for 22 points as St. Joe’s-Metuchen beat St. Peter’s Prep, 85-72, to help his team win their third straight Non-Public A crown.
Marques Townes also scored 22 points, and Vanderbilt pledge Wade Baldwin tallied 17 points.
St. Joe’s will now try to win the elusive Tournament of Champions title after losing in last year’s final to Roselle Catholic. The six-team event features New Jersey’s four public school winners and its two private school champs. It begins on Tuesday.
A McDonald’s All-American, Towns has said that winning the TOC is his last remaining goal.
“We need to bring it together and have a great first and second half if we want to win this T of C,” Towns told Greg Tufaro of MyCentralJersey.com. “We are seniors now. This is our last goal. We’ve got to leave every (drop of) blood, sweat and tear on that court. You want to leave on top.”
